That moment when the shock of the gun firing knocks most of the ice off is glorious.
dark-energy bullets...
so bullets
[editline]10th April 2014[/editline]
its also got a big laser scope
im pretty sure its some form of railgun though, the model is incomplete, and was never really meant for gameplay
where did it say that.. that it shoot bullets? but yeah could very well be.
some stuff remains kinda speculative though, and its not uncommon for fans to try to squeeze more sense out of them over time than the developers themselves did at the time, if that makes any sense.
Is it time to post this again?

And then there are cool vehicles, with cool weapons

While its turret might only cover about 90 degree turn(?), it sure looks intimidating AND can fire Guided Rockets!

Originally in the design, and on some of the earlier models of the combine APC(having decompiled some versions), the MG on it was able to move vertically as well, as it was attached to the end of a short shaft/pole/whatever. So it could actually raise up above the canopy at top and cover the vehicle 360 degrees.
If only the APC looked as good as that.
It looks neat, but that really is an awful design for a turret. If the whole thing turned then having the gun offset wouldn't be such a bad idea, but as it is it's not very well thought out.

the pole thing Ilwrath is talking about is visible here.
I liked the original APC before it was an actual model:

I wonder if they did actually base it on anything or if it's just a generic design, The wiki says it's a French VAB but the resemblance is only minor at best.

Since we're on the topic... The human apc from HL2 was a real APC.
well the shots arent hitscan ingame
so some kind of slow moving but super powered energy shots?
sure, if that's what you want to believe lol. no canon info on that though

i wonder who came up with the idea of attaching a rotor and a machine gun to an upscaled crustacean :v:
The writers of the HL2 wiki still doubt that the human APC is one and list it as 'BRDM/V100' even though it looks absolutely nothing like a BRDM.
But i gotta say, V-100 Commando for classiest 4 wheeled APC.

They're pretty radical with turrets, too.

I remember I had a Toy version of the Turret one.
I'm pretty sure that same APC is in counterstrike as well
The APC in CS:S is an Italian Puma AFV. Not to be confused with the German Puma IFV

There's a 6x6 version, too.

I like to think it's because Combine are evidently very exploitative and destructive towards humans, and might not even give a shit because hey, it's not like they invaded the entire planet with APCs alone. :v:
Sometimes.
I can't help but wish the country I currently live in would let us own rifles. Even if they had to be airsoft or something.

would totally drive one to work every day, if not for the god awful fuel economy, but then again i could just drive straight to work and ignore roads

Every time I see a picture of an L1A1 SLR I keep thinking how easy it probably is to get things smuggled in from New Zealand. I imagine customs doesn't really keep an eye out for packages from them.
They also don't have firearms registration for (most) guns so I could get one smuggled in.
I wish.
Honestly the APC never seemed to be all that good for actually carrying troops, it looks like it wouldn't hold many soldiers, and in game when the Combine were actually shown deploying troops from armored transport they used the dropships. The APCs were used more like light tanks and the occasional power generator.

See, there's not really much room in it.

and to be honest since we didn't see many of them outside city 17, I am assuming that they mostly use it for urban areas mostly where you wouldn't need that much firepower.
I wonder what a combine MBT would look like
Strider.

Kinda what they used those for.
Didn't HL2 RTB have a tank concept for the combine?
The conscripts had a Merkava so i guess by extension that's the 'combine MBT', but I'd more say the Crab Synth is as close to an MBT as you'll get with the combine.
Yeah, I suppose the crab synth might count as well, those were supposed to be the backbone of the Combine army

And since those were left in to the point that they did actually appear in the final game, you could consider those canon.

Wait, at what part do they appear in the final game? Don't remember them at all.
They're walking along a conveyor belt/walkway in the citadel right before Breen's office, along with some mortar synths.
I wonder what other synths the Combine might have.
Wait, at what part do they appear in the final game? Don't remember them at all.
Hidden away in one of the Citadel maps, never actually seen doing anything but walking in a line, and even then they're easy to miss, you have to be looking around to notice them.

The best AR2 update I've ever seen is one where they took the combine mounted machine gun and spruced it up by splicing on parts from the regular AR2 and then completely re-animated the thing so, among other things, Gordon reloads the whole magazine. It looses the strange "caps" in the process, but I think it's better for it.

Couldn't find a video of the new animations in action, which is a shame. They really have to be seen. Kinda shocking it was released more than 8 years ago. Anyways, it's available here:
