Nowadays they should all say AR-15 Assault Rifle.

Actually had someone try to explain to me that a L1A1 was actually an AK before. Apparently its a Middle Eastern 'special version', which is issued to the 'most skilled fighters'. You can tell its the 'modern version' because they moved away from using 'wood' and started using 'plastic' instead. It is very deadly at 'close quarters' because it is a 'machine gun' and 'fires larger bullets.' The american equivalent is apparently the 'M60 machine gun' which is 'better' because it fires from 'box mags' instead of 'clips'.
No this person was not under the age of 25, but I guess firearms arn't everyones thing. Still was a funny conversation.

He's the best kind of stupid person. He's stupid enough to be entirely wrong about every word he says, but still not stupid enough to literally not know what he's talking about.
[editline]16th April 2014[/editline]
My older brother was like that, he said the M60 was the best weapons the Americans had in 'nam, because it fired 7.62, so they could use the VC's AK ammo. Not only is he wrong, but Americans were told not to use enemy munitions, due to [sp]Operation Eldest Son[/sp] faulty Chinese rounds tending to explode.
Another naming trend I've always found sort of funny is the whole referencing of a weapon as a component of a system. I understand the accuracy of such a...analogy? A rifle is useless without spare parts, ammo, magazines etc - and an army wins no battles without supplies and intel - but everytime I hear the words 'weapon system' this comes to mind:

The Liberator hand weapon system. All you need. In a small cardboard carton.
I think the liberator looks like a spud gun :v:

I love the Liberator. I'd want one out of legit stamped steel, none of that nutsy plastic BS

They make an improved reproduction...for $600.
They make an improved reproduction...for $600.
Mind you, that reproduction comes with a note saying they do not recommend firing it, because it's dangerous, and it won't fire in the state you get it. You have to modify the firing pin to make it work.

That and they aren't drop safe.
I believe Hickok45 has a video review and firing of one.
Edit:
Lots of people on youtube firing them...

Looks like Taiwan's working on a new submachine gun to go with those SCAR wannabes they've been tinkering with

Seems to me like they wanted their own version of the Scorpion Evo 3A1.
i kinda see some weird UMP/MP7 hybrid

My personal favorite, the Apache Knuckleduster. Knife, gun, brass knuckles, how could you possibly need anything else

Ultimate weapons system. Just needs a can opener to keep the fighter fed.

More like a UMP/Taurus CT9 hybrid

How about, say,
a barrel? :v:
Pffft barrels are for aiming, which means you're about 50% less manly if youre not firing it from the hip.
Men fire everything from the hip.
Everything.
Even a LAW.

The gun it's based on is way cooler than the gimmick it's made into.

That's one sexy-ass LMG.
[editline]17th April 2014[/editline]
And, if you can't tell from the pic above, it's tiny, too.

Tiny-ass LMG.
Reminds me of the neat belt-fed AR that was posted a while back.

When I was a cadet I met a Vietnam vet who insisted that very thing when it came to the L1A1 SLR. He claimed that he could use VC ammo in his gun but VC couldn't use 7.62Nato in theirs.

I vaguely remebmer FpsBanana had a AK skin just like this one, but it featured the M4 style carry handle instead of the scope.

Seriously? That's what my thing had. Gimme a couple minutes to dig up some old model files.

Here were some animations my friend was making on it.
I forgot I used the Krink stock and the shrunken AK safety lever.

Your friends not half bad. Making some fallout animations as I type, and its as much a hair-pulling experience as it is a learning / productive one. Your design also isn't half bad, much more down to earth than a lot of these sort of whacky re-imaginings tend to have. But then I guess you do post in the facepunch shooty thread.
Have a parts diagram to help with your next hybridisation:
