Most likely to steady your aim, but considering the weapon... he might as well just hold it like any normal person.

Can only imagine doing this as some sort of makeshift bipod when you can rest your arm on the ground or some other surface, don't see much point in any other way since you're basically taking away a lot of your control over the gun

They make suppressors for them as well; if you look up videos of them being fired from the prone, you'll see that it pushes the shooter back about a foot.
