This is a self-powered thing, doesn't require a train engine to pull or shove it. Fits the bill somewhat.
why not make a really fast tank that have retractable trainwheels so it can drive infront/behind the train?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong - but both sides dabbled in adding rolling stock capabilities to their armor. I'm pretty sure the germans even had a few kits to allow tanks to be moved into position via the rail network, before disengaging from the rails and moving into the battlefeilds. But overall trains in open warfare were just to big, noticable and most important of all - easy to derail. If you destroyed even a section of track - trains could no longer pass until it could be repaired - and the route of a locomotive is always the same - down the lines. That aside the benefits of rolling stock are high tonnage over land at relatively high speeds. Aside from the German and Russian forays into super heavy tanks between the wars (though the Germans kept trying to prove the validity of the idea) - WW2 quickly proved that he(or she) who could produce and maintain the highest number of mobile tanks - won. Five panzerkampfwagens were more use than one super heavy tank-train that got bogged down and had to be abandoned - or couldn't reach the battle because the lines had been bombed. After the war, tanks got faster, more maneuverable - with better armor, armaments and longer operational ranges. The need for the ability to travel on rails was superseded by faster, more mobile armor, and the general migration away from rail, even for cargo transportation:
Looks like they slapped a drum mag for a Thompson on top of the gun. Movie and TV producers are fucking stupid.
Looks like they slapped a drum mag for a Thompson on top of the gun. Movie and TV producers are fucking stupid.
They do things like that. For example the Smart Gun from Aliens is an MG42 with motorcycle parts on it.
Motha fuckin' Armored trains, Bitch, You don't even know.
[t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/85/Romney%2C_Hythe_and_Dymchurch_armoured_train.jpg[/t] Armoured trains!
Fairly interesting modern use of an improvised armored train: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krajina_Express [IMG_thumb]http://media.desura.com/images/members/1/420/419240/8obadoc.jpg[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://s59.radikal.ru/i166/0902/cb/f6c11994c80f.jpg[/IMG_thumb] I love enplaced weaponry, I spent an entire Summer instructing a course on the .50 MG and 60mm mortar This is the exact model we used down to the paint job and sight case, It's South African I think
Billy Mitchell's story always makes me sad. He got a lot of shit from the Army and the Navy, and yet never gave up on promoting aviation as the next warfare revolution.
the worst part was that a couple of armies did listen to him..just not the ones we would be friends with in 10 years japan adopted carrier doctrine directly from watching his bombers wreck a battleship [editline]1st May 2014[/editline]
Armoured trains always seemed hellasilly to me. They use tank turrets that could be fitted onto infinitely more useful tanks. As troop transports, sure. Anti-aircraft guns on them are fine there, too. As railway guns, ech, railway guns are silly and all, but fine. If you want silly, oversized artillery, go for it. But the cars with the turrets on them are just dopey as fuck.
ya plus if you're dealing with tanks its probably a safe bet they'll take out the tracks before taking on the train the only real use the germans had for armored trains though that made sense was transporting hitler around
(In my opinon) The cutest littlest ak.
Fixed that for you. My favorite, cutest little (usable) AK. [img_thumb]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v143/Stottman/AKbrake/AKMS-U.jpg[/img_thumb] It embodies the element of "subsonic bullets are magic" (within 120 meters).
I always thought the Tiss was cute. Also, get a load of this thing, the Pindad SS2

I posted that shit like 3 pages back :v Okay maybe a litte bit more than 3 pages.. Can I still get a medal? Ech fuck it, have a Benelli Super 90 with a top-folding stock.
One thing that annoys me about those Pakistani SMG copies is they always have the angles all off, the relation of the receiver to the grip, sometimes the barrel, it just looks weird.
I don't know if you guys like fictional weapons... But the phased plasma rifle from Terminator 2 looks badass. Goes into my prop collection if I were to somehow become rich. Even though the war scenes from Terminator 1 & 2 were so short, they're still my favorite scenes of all.
And it's all built around one of these
Speaking of Terminator guns: Valmet M82

Salvation omitted plasma weapons almost completely and that's a crime against the franchise
There still were plasma weapons in Salvation just not plasma guns. In the attack on the Gas Station, the robots use plasma cannons. They also use plasma cannons when they destroy the resistance's submarine. Salvation takes place at a stage in the Terminator timeline where plasma weapons technology has progressed far enough to be used as cannons on vehicles, but not enough to be used as handheld plasma guns.
Speaking of Terminator guns:
[img_thumb]http://www.imfdb.org/images/b/b9/TERMSE_SIDEA-53.jpg[/img_thumb] Can't see this work too well with a real cartridge

That and blanks have a lot less recoil then real cartridges, It also makes more sense in the movie since he's a cyborg and is pretty damn strong

I thought terminators weighed 500+lbs, which would completely ruin a bike, even a big one. It'd just collapse into shit as soon as he sat on it.
