I don't understand the point of snub noses at all. A shorter barrel not only means less power, it means more blast, more felt recoil and muzzle jump, and less accuracy. I just posted that because it's a literal handcannon.
It's meant to be easy to carry and fast to draw. As for why you would use that over a subcompact semi-auto, well that's the same debate as any type of revolver versus a semi-auto equivalent.
Snub noses are the classic boot pistol, they're the backup to your backup, and so they need to be small. So small in fact, that compared to a semi-auto you're actually not losing much ammo capacity, and since snub noses are based on reliable revolver mechanics rather than miniaturized semi-auto mechanics, they break pretty even with their semi-auto counterparts. I still think that they're almost all ugly bastards, but yadda yadda functionality etc.
I don't understand snub noses in such high calibers Do you hate your wrists
at a certain point a shorter barrel can actually result in less recoil because the powder simply doesnt have enough room to burn hence why a mosin obrez wont actually kick all that much
at a certain point a shorter barrel can actually result in less recoil because the powder simply doesnt have enough room to burn hence why a mosin obrez wont actually kick all that much
The only real difference between a rifle cartridge in a 20 inch barrel vs a 10 inch or less barrel is ~100 ft/s, which is very minimal in terms of energy and therefore recoil. There is a MASSIVE difference in the amount of blast, as well as the lack of forward weight to counteract the recoil. A Snubby kicks more than say a 6'' barreled gun in the same caliber because of the lack of forward weigh, as well as overall weight. That's part of why a .50BMG rifle weighs 25-35lbs. As for blast, that increases hearing damage, but is also much scarier to an attacker.

So you don't have to worry about prints, Mike. I put a special tape on the trigger and the butt. Here, try it... [Michael takes the gun, but can't seem to fire it] Clemenza: What's the matter, trigger too tight? [With a loud bang, Michael finally discharges the gun] Michael: Ow! My ears. Clemenza: Yeah, I left it noisy. That way it scares any pain-in-the-ass innocent bystanders away. All right, you shot them both, now what do you do? Michael: Sit down and finish my dinner.
Still, the velocity difference from 20" to 10" for a rifle cartridge would be more than 100fps.
5.56 sucks out of anything shorter than 18, by the way. Rifle length master race!
well for something like [t]http://www.imfdb.org/images/thumb/5/59/Thunder_5.JPG/400px-Thunder_5.JPG[/t] ya it's going to loose a ton of ft/s because the gas is only adding speed to the bullet as long as they are in the barrel and the barrel is properly sealed, so with these snub noses it'll loose a ton of ft/s but the difference between a 20" and a 16" is probably little depending on the cartridge because the gas can only do so much work on the bullet before its expansion is over [editline]18th June 2014[/editline]
5.56 sucks out of anything shorter than 18, by the way.
5.56 sucks out of anything shorter than 18, by the way. Rifle length master race!
5.56 performs adequately out of a 16" and 14.5" barrel, because M193 and M855 are still well enough above the 2700fps mark to fragment effectively inside of 125yds. However, shorter barrels have been repeatedly proven to be more accurate than longer barrels because they exhibit less flexing during firing; you can shoot 800yds with your 10" barrel AR-15, but you'll be fighting bullet drop.

There's also considering that with the shorter barrel, there's less forward weight to counteract the muzzle jump and less overall weight to reduce felt recoil. Either way, a snub barrel might decrease total recoil by a small amount due to more of the energy being wasted, but felt recoil will increase by a very noticeable amount.

Just the sound at 0:30. TLAMs are pretty cool.
I love the way Cruise Missiles fire.
^ thats a fun way to burn 10 million dollars unless the other 4 launches were just of different angles, then its only like 4-5 million
[t]http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s178/Redberens/629pc6.jpg[/t] can't believe they made a .44 snub nose, its got to kick really bad
They're heavy as fuck

The pump handle thing looks like it's from an mp5k

Everything about that is so confusing
Is it just me or does this thing's grip look stolen from a revolver
Yes. Stop Frommer time I just love the look of the baby Frommer Stops, it's the cutest little long-recoil action I've ever seen.
the day C/U weapon thread got shut down by a shotgun
