Because having more then 5 rounds turns it into a deadly assault baby killer

I know of the immediate danger of spontaneous infant-murder, but if you're gonna have the small magazine, why have a fake extension on it? It's like a fuckin' penis-pump, all show and no go.

'Cause of the way the barrel and tube connect, I would think, looks like it's there as a structural piece
[editline]Hyenas[/editline]
Either that or a manufacturing thing, just crimp off the tube and call it good instead of having a whole different barrel and tube assembly for different capacities
Has anyone elver considered the idea of a missile tank? Basically it would be a turretless tank that was fitted with missile cells similar to what ships have. The cells would probably contain something similar to the AGM-114 Hellfire and I guess you could probably fit 20 odd missiles inside the tank body. Guidance could probably be achieved using a few small helicopter drones.
Of course the downside of the thing would be that it's pretty much a dedicated tank killer. It really wouldn't be cost effective to use as an anti-personnel or anti-structure weapon.

Dedicated missile tanks may have never caught on but damned if missile trucks didn't.

They would get eaten alive by both small arms fire and tanks.

Been done quite a bit. Can't remember any model-names, lemme just fire up Wargame: Red Dragon and see...
I do know that the FV-102 Striker is one such vehicle

Very small, and mounting a rack of four Swingfire missiles that retracts under the hull for reloading. Only carries eight missiles total, as opposed to it's predecessor, the FV-438, which carried 14 missiles total. Can be remote targetted, letting the vehicle stay in complete cover when firing.

There's also the heavier Jaguar 2 Raketenjagdpanzer, which mounts a TOW that has to be externally crewed and reloaded.

Soviets had some fully dedicated missile tanks that were cool, but they were always considered to be less effective/versatile than regular tanks so they saw extremely limited production. Modern technology could certainly improve them, but I'm not sure they'd be worth it.

Well, all Russian tanks are also missile-tanks, strictly speaking. They can all launch ATGMs from their main guns.

Yeah, but that's not their primary purpose, its merely a feature.
This is the IT-1, a fully purposed missile tank:

There's a few other projects they worked on that look cooler, but are more obscure.

Well, the missiles were kinda intended as their primary munition since they were more effective at taking out MBTs; especially in the older models that they upgraded and modernized, the AGTMs were a great way to keep an old design relevant longer.
DID SOMEONE SAY MISSILE TANK?!

Oh god the Sheridan, I love that ludicrous little tank

It's so adorable. And air-droppable. And awful.
Who said there aren't missile tanks?

TOS-1 is only mounted on a tank chassis because they realized the rockets they made for it were too short-range for a truck to go that close to the battlefield :v:

I was going to say the thin armour on the rocket case probably defeats the point of it being mounted on a tank.

This MLRS work with group of tanks and other armored vehicle, not alone.

The advantage of missiles over tank guns is standoff attack, especially with the range on modern laser-guided ATGMs. Most countries haven't developed missile tanks because there's no real point, you'd be putting a weapon system best suited to staying behind the front lines in a chassis designed to go toe-to-toe with the enemy.
Ultimately it's a lot cheaper and just as effective to have a guy with a laser pointer on the front line and a missile truck hidden somewhere two miles behind him. Tanks are meant for spearheads and breakthroughs, and that role is best addressed with a flexible gun with a lot of ammo. The firepower carried by MBTs makes them effective at knocking out other tanks, which is why the tank destroyer concept (as it existed in WW2) no longer exists.
There are plenty of armored vehicles with missiles as a limited AT payload, like Bradleys and Strikers, and a lot more that mount external TOW launchers, but this is because a few missile cells are a fairly cheap AT solution for lighter vehicles. For a tank with the mass to mount an effective AT gun, there's nothing a missile rack can do better than just a gun that couldn't also be done better by a vehicle that isn't a tank.
We need to go older...and German.

Looks like something you'd find in BioShock Infinite:

The weapons above look like it was random stuff glued on without any though. The least they could do is make it coherent in some fantasy way.

Yeah, but what I'd really like to see is a literal, fully functioning steam-powered weapon. Not just an AK or AR with brass cogs and valves slapped onto it.
Like this?
