SVU-A. Bullpup sniper rifle that can fire in fully automatic and that comes with an integrated (I think) suppressor/muzzle brake.
Not a suppressor.
Not a suppressor.
It is a suppressor. Just not like, a very suppressing one; more like, turn the noise down from sound-of-a-SVD to sound-of-an-AK kinda suppressing. Which is plenty for urban sniping.
It is a suppressor. Just not like, a very suppressing one; more like, turn the noise down from sound-of-a-SVD to sound-of-an-AK kinda suppressing. Same reason SF guys use little suppressors on their M4s

SVU three-chambered silencer opening. This supressor is not intended to completely silence the rifle since the soldier would not be using subsonic ammunition. Its main purpose is to quiet and diffuse the noise enough to make detection by the enemy difficult.
As a side note, reading up on the SVU and the SVU-A, it seems like it has a hilariously awful trigger. That's the trigger rod you see running the length of the receiver on the outside. The auto-fire of the SVU-A is regulated not by fire selector, but by trigger pressure, so a short pull is semi, a long pull is auto. How do you switch it to semi-automatic only, you ask? A little hinged tab behind the trigger that can be pushed in to block a long pull. Very Russian indeed...
So it has an AUG trigger then.
Same idea. The P90 has a two stage trigger also. [editline]8th August 2014[/editline] Technically two stage is the wrong term but you know what I mean
Do they have baffles?
Yes, baffles/ chambers. Example:
Supersonic ammo coming out of a suppressed weapon sounds cool as shit
It is a silencer, but like any silencer, it only reduces some of the noise when firing non-subsonic ammunition.
Even with subsonic, a SVU would still be quite loud since unlike a larger can, it's just meant to mask it slightly, not make it actually-quiet. It got three baffles, unlike the regular ten to twentyish.
Just gonna put out a little explanation on those "moderators" since it seems people don't all know about them. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on anything. Basically when Colt first started making AR-15 carbines they made them in two lengths, the 605 had a 15 incher cut down from a standard 20" with rifle gas, however the 607, 608, 609, and 610 used 10 inch barrels and carbine systems. These short barrels had a massive and painfully loud muzzle blast that wasn't managed by the duckbills, so Colt decided to make a new muzzle device that would better reduce the sound and flash. The first idea they had that worked was this, the 3.5" moderator, essentially a small suppressor. These things brought down the size and sound of the shot considerably and also increased the amount of back pressure, which improved the reliability of the action, but also caused excessive carbon fouling and accuracy problems with tracer rounds. Colt would then refine this design by lengthening it and essentially putting a thickened birdcage at the end As I said, these were pretty much the same deal, just with an additional muzzle brake and lengthened out to 4.25", this style of moderator was able to reduce the muzzle blast of a 10" carbine down to about the same as that of a 20" rifle barrel, but these would also be superseded by this: The final version of the moderator was about the same length and design as the previous, and in most regards functionally identical, but these had a "grenade ring" at the rear end of it for mounting grenade launchers. Also the reason you can see more barrel on this one is because by this point Colt realized that 10" barrel 5.56s weren't the best idea and moved it up to 11.5". Let me also take this opportunity to state that genuine moderators are classified as silencers by the ATF, so a lot of CAR-15 style rifles will instead just have something in the vein of these barrel extensions/flash hiders that are made to look like moderators. These have none of the sound reducing qualities of the moderator, and are generally longer so that when permanently affixed they bring the barrel up to an overall length of 16".
