I can't get enough of this: Dat sound.
As awesome as this is, there's a lot more reasons to keep using the M2 on technicals than this beast. I can see it on helicopters sure, but for something like a HMMV soldiers would trust the M2 more than this thing (and I doubt they would need this amount of firepower). One step closer to the assault cannon though. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20907409/photos/tg/40k/deathwing3compact.jpg[/t]

isn't that what the Marines in Vietnam used with the sawn-off m60? fucking incredible
[t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c1/Sentinel_Tank_April_2010.jpg[/t] The Sentinel Kinda looks like a beefier Covenanter.
Wouldn't it be many times more practical and less awkward to use to just carry five 100rd nutsacks? It doesn't look like maintenance of this thing is worth the 500 continuous rounds of dakka.

That man is a weapon himself. Fuck yeah. Space marines are augmented like crazy from prepubescence to adulthood to reach that size, and to have the ability to wear the power armor.

What the actual fuck is that From what I can gather its an AK of some description with a Saiga 12 on top of it.
i think i'm in love [editline]30th September 2014[/editline]
What the actual fuck is that From what I can gather its an AK of some description with a Saiga 12 on top of it.
looks like that's exactly what it is
THE BEAST
this seems very impractical.
but isn't it probable that the suit is mostly electronics, spare bullets, servos, batteries and life support stuff? [editline]30th September 2014[/editline] also they don't have to worry about their cannon fodder living long so they can make organ systems that can handle that much bulk...for a while
No, because most life support is handled by the Marine himself thanks to their genetic upgrades. Most of the stuff you've described is probably in the backpack (can't remember), extra magazines are carried in pouches (and one lore point claimed that the pauldrons can also hold spare bolter magazines, iirc)
And if you look at the arms of the suit, their shoulders will have to be that broad to reach them.

The idea is some fifty years old and it's still not practical- there's no reason to limit your machine gunner to 500 rounds, make it difficult to resupply him in the field, and make him carry it all, when you can instead just distribute 100-round belts to everyone in the squad plus a couple hundred to the MGer himself for a total of 800-1200 rounds in easily carried form. Very mobile fighters like special forces might find it useful but for the rank and file it's just not advantageous.

[editline]30th September 2014[/editline] also they don't have to worry about their cannon fodder living long so they can make organ systems that can handle that much bulk...for a while
The entire augmentation/implant process is described in full here. In Warhammer 40k lore, the space marines are in their armor basically until they die, and if they're lucky, they can live for centuries. Pretty much all life support is handled by their extra implanted organs, and the power armor is comprised of some sci-fi version of ceramic materials (it does contain electronic components however) as well as plasteel (I think). The under armor they have is called the black carapace, which is like a kind of simple plastic exoskeleton that the power armor connects to. It is embedded into the space marines skin. Also, their rib cage also gets turned into a solid piece of hardened bone through the implant process, which makes it just about bulletproof. It's best not to take it all too seriously though, because it's all really just hardcore sci-fi mumbo jumbo that doesn't hold any real world merit or has any possibilities of becoming a reality. Yet.

Milled AKs are kinda limited on buttstock replacement options; also, why get a neutered looking AK? Just go to Atlantic and find a good AK...
