Excuse me, none of those WW2 SMGs are the Polish Home Guard's Lightning
That pistol has been used in a number of futuristic Sci Fi films
And in a (very topical, 'cause it's just past Christmas!) very memorable role in a neither futuristic nor Sci-Fi one

I'm honestly kind of amazed you haven't spoken more about the Blyskawica more given your love of home made firearms. This thing was pretty much the ultimate in that regard, entirely designed, developed, tested, and produced in the hundreds by the Polish partisans during the Nazi occupation, parts were disguised as various different things and manufactured all over the city (with the exception of barrels and magazines which were cannibalized from other subguns), before being shipped by couriers to their final assembly point, where they were assembled and test fired by five men in the basement of a Church. The weapon actually takes its name from the lightning bolt marks that can be found on its stock buttplate

These served the dual purpose of increasing its grip and disguising it, as the lightning bolts were a brand symbol and the stock officially made as oven parts.

And since the Armia Krajowa was mentioned: obligatory Sabaton

Exactly why I love them so much! That and some of the firearms produced by the British Home Army, were the weapons that got me interested into the world of homemade firearms and other things such as the whole blackmarket.

All the weapons on that table... Were mass-produced in the thousands by the Polish resistance. Those hand grenades are something I fucking love. It isn't all that complicated to produce them this very day, and some bikie gangs in Australia were actually caught manufacturing them out in the bush some months back.

Oh and while we are on the topic of WW2 resistance movements!

A reproduction of a Girandoni Air Rifle that was used to silently assassinate axis troops in southern Italy.
Air rifles are fucking awesome. I saw a really cool video on YouTube about the Lewis & Clark expedition and how it impressed Indians and stuff.

This thread and Firearms general really should merge.
I may be wrong but isn't the point of Firearms general more about ownership and usage of firearms while this thread deals more with design and history?
Aye. That would be the case.
All though firearms general will discuss similar topics to the one on this thread, we tend to be just the hang out club for any firearm owner. Most of the people on the FP Gun Club are also part of the North American Militia Movement or apart of the Hope for Kalmar Union party.
Typically I see that stuff that gets posted here invariably ends up on Firearms General. So that's why I suggested that the two should just merge.
For comparison, the XM25:

weighs ~6 kg and holds four shots of 25mm. A SCAR-L (if we're going with the whole futuristic loadout thing) weighs 3.3 kg. That's only one kg more in the grand scheme of things, and way more bulky since you have to actually carry two weapons, but I bet using a 3 kg weapon is a lot more convenient than an 8 kg one - and you'd only have to whip out the grenade launcher for, well, launching grenades
IIRC the OICW programme's goal was a 5 kg weapon that had a multishot 'nade launcher, which would've actually made sense.
This has been your armchair weapon specialist opinion for the evening
I keep looking at that and thinking why the fuck they need a super special semi-auto grenade launcher when they could just design a smart grenade for the 40mm, slap the computer on an M320, and viola; a smart grenade launcher that only weighs 1-2kg
I keep looking at that and thinking why the fuck they need a super special semi-auto grenade launcher when they could just design a smart grenade for the 40mm, slap the computer on an M320, and viola; a smart grenade launcher that only weighs 1-2kg
because modifying an M320 to do what the XM25 does is ridiculous. it would perform worse even if it was lighter, so what's the point?
you just can't get the same accuracy and rate of fire with that idea of yours.

with the XM25 you get 4 shots as opposed to the M320's one, and I bet 25mm mags are way more convenient to carry than 40mm nades, too.
besides, I'm guessing they probably wanted to salvage the best working parts when the OICW program was scrapped :v: and hey, according to what I've read the XM25 is actually pulling its own so hey.
But why would you need a semi-auto 4 shot grenade launcher at the fireteam level?
But why would you need a semi-auto 4 shot grenade launcher at the fireteam level?
It's more shootier, duh

because war in the 1980's
none of these guns really work with what we've been doing in the last 10 years

I think it's meant to be a platoon/squad level asset. It has an effective range of 800m which is more than twice that of the M203/M320. Even though it's only been on a few combat field trials, it's shown that it can end a firefight in minutes. They just need to work on it's reliability and make it lighter. Also they are working on airbursting 40mm http://kitup.military.com/2014/09/army-air-bursting-40mm-grenade.html

I prefer this over the 95 :v
It's weird how all the pictures of rk62/95 have metal mags, I don't think those have been used in some time
sexy scopes?
Should have atleast posted the god tier telestock version

Wow, that's not sacrilege or anything... Pretty tired of the M4 buttstock stuck on everything, even if it works well.
As far as the mags go, you guys use those Finnish Bulgy waffle mag clones, right?
And I know it's generally hated because of how huge and shit it was, but I still love the OICW.

Do any images exist of the OICW's rifle without the GL on top of it? it's a nice looking rifle from what parts I can see but it has that giant GL suffocating it.
Sorry if this post is dumb and it's just an AR-15 or something.

In all seriousness though, there's pretty much just this picture of it exploded partially

The grenade launcher and assault rifle combo was kind of the entire point, so they weren't meant to be separated until it got split into the XM8 and XM25.

It's really not a sacred thing though. FDF is looking to modernize it a bit so came up with the tele stock.
those RK95 mags are what we used

i usually don't get bothered by people getting the clip vs magazine thing wrong, but you'd kinda expect a diagram to at least get that one right...
