The Chinese repeating crossbows are neat but not particularly useful on their own. The idea of them was just to arm thousands of peasants with a weapon that would be a mere nuisance on its own, but would be devastating in mass fire. European crossbows were for single professional soldiers who needed a direct fire capability.

I suspect the slantyness is to retard bolt movement. I assume the weapon is blowback so having the bolt move at an angle to the applied pressure of a round detonating would require more force, enabling a lighter bolt. Though considering the angle it would only be 10% or so

As far as i'm concerned weapons have been getting uglier since 1900. Granted I would want our armed forces going into a warzone armed with muskets, but for private use give me a Colt Single Action over any Glock/H&K/Beretta etc.

In the same way I prefer old cars and aircraft. I'm not saying they are more efficient than modern stuff, because clearly they aren't. I just prefer them.

That old dodge charger you like so much is pretty but it rides like garbage, drives like a barn, and gets the gas mileage of an 18 wheeler. I'll take my SG556 to your sharps rifle any day of the week.

But in my defense Im British so I would have no knowledge on the way it drives but I knew it had bad mpg. But hey, this is England fuel is crazy expensive anyway.
