Makes me think of the M56 "s.m.a.r.t." gun from Aliens.
Just add a drum magazine and a Google Glass HUD and that's pretty much it.

Ugly as sin but awesome as hell in the series/movie.
How about some more Hollywood guns for a change?

The Podbyrin 9.2mm, most powerful handgun in the world according to the glorious Soviet government. In reality it's a .357 Deagle mocked up to resemble "a P38 on steroids" for Ahnold to use in Red Heat, the designer nicknamed it the Hollywood Eagle.

The OCP Auto-9, selective fire machine pistol, firing armor-piercing rounds from a 50 round magazine. It's actually a mocked up Beretta 93R, and the fictional magazine capacity is just to justify the fact that in the entirety of the Robocop trilogy the gun is only shown reloading once.

The Rapier 9mm R. Tybalt's gun from a '96 "modernization" of Romeo and Juliet, basically all the guns were mocked up and rebranded as various medieval weapons so they wouldn't have the change the dialogue any from the original play. It's actually a gold plated, compensated PT99. This particular gun was also shown with a C-more sight at times (which was also gold plated).

The .45 longslide with laser sighting from The Terminator, an AMT hardballer with a large primitive laser sight, the laser was powered by a battery in Arnold's vest and activated by a button in his other hand.
And what hollywood gun post could even pretend to be somewhat complete without some rifles? So here have three different flavors of future assault rifle:

The Armat M41a Pulse Rifle, fires the 10x24mm caseless round, with a pump action 30mm underslung grenade launcher, also has an ammo counter on the side to indicate the rounds in the magazine, they come in 100 round capacity but are generally only loaded with 99 to prevent jams (similar to how STEN's were often only loaded to 30 out of 32). Standard issue to the USCMC in Aliens. Actually this thing is a .45ACP M1a1 Thompson SMG with a very large casing, a wireframe stock, an LCD screen, and an underslung R870 shotgun that has been chopped down and fitted with a SPAS-12 heat shield.

The Blastech E-11 Blaster Rifle. Derived from the earlier DC-15 rifle, fired a charged plasma bolt, energized from a side-mounted power cell in lieu of a magazine, which gave it a capacity of around 100 shots before needed to recharge, but this could vary depending on your power setting. The standard rifle of Imperial Storm Troopers in Star Wars. These things were made from Sterling L2a3 British 9mm SMGs fitted with scopes and the Star Wars version of rails.

The Westinghouse M95a1, a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range. Used in the future war in the Terminator universe. Was actually built from a Calico M960 9mm submachine gun.
So what do people think of the MG36? In terms of shape, practicality, and appeal, I mean.

On topic of Hollywood guns: Golden AK from Lord of War.

From IMFDB article:
The gold-plated AK-47/AKM derivative carried by André Baptiste, Jr. (Sammi Rotibi) is not, as has been written previously, an "AKS-47U" or "AKMSU" or any such factory-manufactured weapon. It is a custom-made Kalashnikov that was built specially for the movie. Martin Edge, an armorer at Hire Weapons, which supplied the guns for all scenes filmed in South Africa, has sent IMFDB an e-mail with the following details:
"The weapon started out as a Saiga hunting rifle with synthetic stock and furniture...Here are the rest of the details:
-The folding stock is, as you mentioned from East Germany, this was purchased in East Germany at an arms fair and fitted to the weapon
-The top cover is held on by means of a S.M.L.E. rear top cover spring clip
-A pistol grip was installed and the trigger moved forward, the trigger guard is from a Vector R4
-The barrel and gas tube were shortened and the front sight is fitted to the barrel by means a flat on the barrel and a key on the front sight, the hand guard is held in position by the flash hider
-The Muzzle brake/flash hider was turned down from a piece of bar
The weapon was originally supplied to the production with the black synthetic furniture, but was rejected in favour of the wooden furniture. The weapon was actually built by Bruce Wenztel, the owner of Hire Arms, which is Johannesburg based movie weapons props house in South Africa. I was not one of the armourers on the movie as I was not working for the company that the time of the production. The armourer was Lance Peters who handled the weapons on set on the companies behalf. Hire Arms imported some weapons and supplied the others. I spend most of my time building specialized weapons for future productions and spend very little time on set. The company has 400 feature movies under its belt and seems to be going from strength to strength. I am attaching various other pictures, please feel free to upload as you like.
You also mention the magazine in your copy, and it is an early type and was chosen because of its surface area for ease of plating. Brass plating was suggested as an alternative to gold but was rejected by the production in favour of 18crt gold plating, which cost a small fortune."
So that FrankenAK is plated with real gold... Nice!
f2000s always looked really weird when watching them shoot to me because you hear and see the shot and are kind of like "wheres the shell?" then it pops out the front a wee bit later
[editline]16th June 2013[/editline]
and its not like it goes flying out it just kinda calmly walks out the front end like "oh hey" and plops onto the ground
On the topic of movie weapons:

The beretta from Equilibrium looks really cool.

I love it when they make those limited edition guns. The engravings always look so beautiful.
I've always found the Welrod strange, but quite unique.

Welrods are really nice, yeah, I modelled one some ways back, the Mk.II to be exact;

i love as weapon design progresses taking the entire weapon apart is simplified into fewer and fewer steps. he took the gun apart like it was a toy.
[editline]16th June 2013[/editline]
the thing i like about that weapon system the most though was its appearance specifically in splinter cell: chaos theory.
in that game you simply hit a button, your character takes a knee and swaps whatever bottom attachment you have on for another one. it was truly badass. you could turn your gun from a shotgun to an anti material sniper rifle... and the foregrip (awesome for multiple successive headshots) and who could forget the launcher.
I think that Deckard's pistol from Blade Runner is interesting.

Constructed of parts from a Steyr-Mannlicher model SL rifle and a Charter Arms Bulldog revolver.

It looks like that gun
It probably is that gun knowing my lack of knowledge of fallout and blade runner
it is

Yep, the .223 pistol in Fallout 1 and 2 (and ugh, "That Gun" in New Vegas), is based on Deckard's gun.
cool i am smart for once

Most guns field strip rather easily. Even field stripping something as dated as an M1 garand or M14 is a real simple process.

pop out the trigger assembly and pull out the receiver; done.
M16's are also rather simple to field strip

I shouldn't even need to mention how easily Kalashnikov rifles field strip

But, by far the easiest modern rifle to field strip is the SG556

Well in fallout 1 there was the .223 pistol, which was modeled after the gun from blade runner, and it was in every other fallout besides fallout 3.
Ninjas.
AUG/F88 is the easiest rifle to strip. Don't need anything but fingers to do it, no bullets or tools.

You don't need those for a lot of rifles.
ar15 is so incredibly simple to field strip idk why you would want to simplify it further

yeah but there were basically 4 parts that he pulled out of the rifle's body.
i know that each group was made up of many different parts but i think it's cool that they made it that simple. each important grouping of parts was put together in essentially a little package you could just pull out.
with those guns you're taking the entire thing apart. with this gun you just pop out what needs fixing. i dunno.
also one day i'm waiting for hickok to snap and scream "WE'RE FILMING HERE" to any one of the passing by helicopters or trucks, pull out a mac 10 from under the desk and empty it into the direction of the disturbance.

It's literally the same thing with the ones I posted.
In the trigger group in the M14, theres about 6 trillion moving parts, and with the receiver, barrel, and gas system theres about 400,000 moving parts, but it field strips down to just 3 parts.
