While regular 40K units can damage them, its very hard, and the idea is that you focus your crazy units on your enemies crazy units, and whichever army's lives is gonna wreck some serious face.

I don't really know much about the WH40K universe, but I sure love what I do know. It's so fucking ridiculous and over the top, it's awesome (and really funny when people take it seriously)

You're not supposed to hold it like a typical knife, you hold it in a reverse grip with your index finger through the loop and thumb on the textured part of the loop. If used as intended, in Kali/Eskrima, it can be frighteningly effective, because the main technique of that martial art is to deflect an opponent's blow and counter with a strike. You keep a knife in reverse grip so that that hand can be used to parry and deflect a blow, using the wrist to pass an attack. Normally a knife in a reverse grip is not very useful as an offensive weapon, but the curve of the karambit allows it to effectively stab as part of a slashing motion. It's not really practical as a day-to-day thing but as far as bladed weapons go it is extremely effective when used as intended.
