In the article it says there are 2 200 non gang-related firearm murders each year. So about 0.71 per 100 000 people. Finland, which also has one of the highest gun per capita ratios has only 0.37 gun related murders per 10 000 people. So about half less. It's also not only the murders but the suicides which are a problem. Having a loaded gun on your table makes the suicide a lot easier than not having it there. So less "home defense weapons" means less suicides. Anyway let's not turn this again into another debate.
