There is that one motif in the wall that has really inspired me. It is used in a bunch of times in the Wall, but is more obvious in Hey You. The notes are ABCB~, and it is really simple but very effective. It's used on Another Brick in the Wall and is the vocal melody. It is also used in The Trial. I think it is used a few more places. But it really got me thinking about the power of short and simple phrases and how they can be used to connect different songs throughout an album.
Roger does a similar thing in his Pros And Cons album, the "dun, di-ding" of Clapton's guitar on a bunch of the songs
Yeah, I think that musical motif is used most powerfully during the solo in Hey You.
So this is how the girl who sings in The Great Gig In The Sky looks. I always thought she would be black. Guess that makes me a racist :v:
I am also apparently racist. Racist for thinking that a black woman has a great voice.
I too thought it was a black woman until recently
I always thought she would be black. Guess that makes me a racist :v:
She stole the style of singing that was pioneered by some of the greatest black female vocalists in the 60s. :smug:
I don't like Clare Torry. She is a prig.

Not anymore she ain't.
True
She's beautiful
Bit wide, though. :downs:
Semi-relevant comparison for that Great Gig in the Sky girl. :v: Clare Torry then [img_thumb]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zpz-mDmU54I/TO_zD4xwCEI/AAAAAAAAAU8/b-yHiCiD9X0/s1600/clare+torry+bw.jpg[/img_thumb] Clare Torry now [img_thumb]http://www.8notti.it/pinkfloyd/padu/news/notizie/images/20_claretorry1990.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://www.enotes.com/w/images/thumb/a/ab/Clare_torry.gif/150px-Clare_torry.gif[/img_thumb]
Caw... Feels like I had a brick for dinner. :psyduck:
Just bought myself Wish You Were Here on CD. The awesomeness of Shine On is just too much.
Me and a friend of mine both remember the words of Have A Cigar and sometimes when it comes on on my playlist we sing it together :v:
I would love them to release an album of demos from their earlier days. That would be awesome :v:
does mason actually use his double bass in any pink floyd studio tracks?
I think he does on Careful With That Axe, Eugene

How do you guys feel about post-Roger Waters material? To be honest, I really wanted to like AMLOR and The Division Bell since I respect Gilmour as a guitar player, singer, and song composer, but the lyrics were really lacking. I am willing to say that they made up for those two albums with High Hopes, as it was a perfect song to end the Pink Floyd legacy. On the same note, I didn't really like The Final Cut because it was becoming too much of a Roger Waters solo work rather than a Pink Floyd album.
Momentary Lapse of Reason is really enjoyable. Don't be like Waters and say the lyrics are dry.. It's more 80s sounding and honed in than Final Cut.
While the lyrics on The Division Bell are absolute shit, I think it's some of the best guitar work Gilmour has ever done Also, The Final Cut was a Roger Waters solo album through and through, but that by no means makes it bad.

Right up there with DSOTM, Meddle, and Wish You Were Here.
Easy on there Solid, don't get too hasty, ya hear! :smug:

Waters Solo work was awesome in the 80s though. I'll give him that.
I was surprised that even Waters was hit with the 80's sound. Radio Waves (Radio KAOS)
Radio KAOS is good
Gilmour's About Face is better.
