I think Pink Floyd is that great because they created their own sound, where you know it is them just upon hearing the music. They haven't at all gotten old for me. I can see why people wouldn't think they are that great, especially from a technical standpoint, but they remain one of my favorite bands. Besides Vera, I can't say there is a song I dislike from Meddle to The Wall (excluding the Obscured by Clouds album).
[img_thumb]http://www.progarchives.com/progressive_rock_discography_covers/364/cover_3531151082009.jpg[/img_thumb] Ok, that's just my opinion. :3:
Besides two songs, I love this album. It isn't really like a Pink Floyd album though. When I listen to it I see it more as a Water's album.
One of my favorite albums that's pretty underrated is obscured by clouds. Of course the albums; the wall, animals and wish you were here are incredible, but Obscured by clouds has it's own obscure sound to it. The song "free four" has such wonderful lyrics to just sit and contemplate about. You shuffle in gloom of the sickroom And talk to yourself as you die. Life is a short, warm moment And death is a long cold rest. I absolutely love it. On the other had their last album the division bell, is my least favorite. (though I still do listen to it occasionally) It just doesn't have the same feel to it as the other albums. [editline]13th December 2010[/editline] Also I must say A momentary lapse in reason has got to be one of their most thought provoking albums.

I forgot about The Division Bell when I was talking about The Final Cut. The Division Bell is definitely my least favorite. I think it has very few redeeming moments... whereas The Final Cut has quite a few. And I do love Obscured By Clouds. Although for the kind-of-under-appreciated albums like Meddle, Obscured and Atom Heart Mother, AHM is definitely my favorite. Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast and Fat Old Sun are total genius, and If is heartbreaking and beautiful. Summer '68 falls somewhere inbetween. And the AHM Suite is all of the above, crazy and inventive and just wonderful. I love that album...
Pink Floyd are my favorite band of all time. I have their whole collection. So far I have: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Obscured by Clouds, Dark Side of the Moon, Animals. All on Vinyl, I'm trying to get their whole collection on vinyl. But for some reason. I don't really like The Wall that much. It's probably one of my least favorite albums by them. I haven't heard anyone else who likes them say this. I really like Comfortably Numb, but that's about it, the rest of the album just seems boring to me, and way too "Roger Waters-controlled"

Nevertheless I loved The Wall, it's just a fantastic listening, especially One of My Turns.
Wish You Were Here and The Wall are just so brilliant.

I just love all of it, especially the "Silence in the studio!" part where the song just erupts.
I dont mean this to be at all offensive (quite the contrary) but I bring a stack of pink floyd albums when there's a really long car or bus trip that needs to be taken. Great stuff for just zoning out into the music.

I like the songs where Gilmour plays with high gain and reverb. Not a big enough floyd fan to know much of their discography, but Im guessing that's generally in the later stuff.

Which spans, like, most of their career.

Although a lot of the melodies are "borrowed" from The Wall, Waters uses them in such a way that they seem new.

The Final Cut is something that people have to grow to like.
Just saw this for real :3: Not quite colourful as it is here, as it has been disused for quite some time. Very dark nowadays :saddowns: Still very awesome looking.
Where is that?
It's in London, a place called Battersea
Type it into google and you can get lots of pictures of the real thing. For some reason it is my go to wallpaper and it is my avatar. I got banned or something for having a hot chick in my avatar so I had to change it.
Battersea Power Station. It wasn't far from where the Floyd did their reunion gig for live aid.
I don't know why but the Animals album art is one of my favorites by them.
That was more or less from Meddle until Division Bell. Which spans, like, most of their career.
Oh, okay then. Then I like most of his stuff :p Obviously couldn't call myself a devoted fan, though or Id know the discography.
I've got the Dark Side of the Moon album cover on a t-shirt. I'm 15 and I listen to alot of 70s/80s music, good stuff.
Hardcore Pink Floyd and Beatles fans tend to pick quarrels with people who don't really listen to the band they wear shirts of. It's kind of weird, but it is pretty common. I like turning it around on those people and showing how much they don't know about the band, and if they do know their stuff we have a real good conversation.

I saw Pink Floyd: The Wall Live about a month ago, it was fucking awesome. It was also the first concert I have ever been to. During it, they had a couple of people building up "The Wall" which was a bunch of white "bricks" that were served as a projector screen. They did that thing where you project onto a screen and the graphics involved look 3D, that was epic. There were also a couple of puppets for the teacher, women, and mother. The intermission was also very short (15-20 minutes), which is contrary to what the newspaper and local rock stations said. The music was spot on. I was surprised how close they were towards the original songs. Then there was Roger Waters, his voice sounded almost exactly the same as it did 31 years ago. The only problem is that during the concert, people were smoking weed, which I find perfectly fine, but god damned it smelled dank. Overall, it was a great concert. If they're coming to your town/city and you're a Pink Floyd fan, I highly suggest you should see it.
Waters sounded good? He must of made some big life decision. He really hasn't sounded good in recent years.
And I'm going to see The Wall Live next year. :buddy:
Holy fuck so am I
I was gonna go but its too expensive :smith:
