I think we can talk about what we want, I mean what do a few posts matter It's a discussion
Except in the end format is each to their own so really, shouldn't have to go so far deep into it and I don't even use FLAC, was just using FLAC as an example But the point is, FLAC is lossless in encoding so mathematically its better quality than MP3, which isn't lossless. Admittedly saying it was really poor quality was just exaggerating but to me it sounds different, and I prefer it, but if you can't perceive any difference then it shouldn't matter too much really.
The reason Mp3 is the industry standard is because most people can't tell the difference/don't care, in addition to the fact that they take up much less space than flac.
John Wetton's Us And Them Cover Think it's good?
I think all of the covers are great, but they are very very very different to the originals. But seeing as there was a guitar solo here where one didn't exist before, I'm not too sure on it. Can't fault the mandolin solo in Cnumb though :v:
I don't think vocal wise it portrayed a WHOLE lot difference other than it being John Wetton styled.
These covers are much better than I thought they'd be...
Not format, quality. Mp3 is really, really poor quality and pretty lossy. I would prefer the industry standard format to be something like FLAC.
FLAC is absolute crap. An MP3 file at 320kbps is better. Also, I have not been checking in this thread for the last several days :(
FLAC is absolute crap. An MP3 file at 320kbps is better. Also, I have not been checking in this thread for the last several days :(
Nobody would tell the difference between them. Look at the links.
Finally giving The Wall a listen after a long time listening.
Was using FLAC as an example of a lossless encoding, I don't use or like FLAC either, I use apple lossless and I rather like it. And enough of that. I'm trying to find a copy of Back Against the Wall now so I can give the whole thing a listen, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Has anyone else found it?

Well guys, I'm off to Egilsstaðir (a town on the other side of Iceland) for the weekend, not coming back 'til Monday, not sure if there's an internet connection there, if not, then I won't be joining the oyster-puns-transformers discussion :frown: Wish me luck on my 10 hour drive!

Okay, Floyd. I WANT OFFICIALLY RELEASED BOOTLEG ALBUMS. Right here, right now... or I will send the dogs.
Why Bootlegs? They'd be shit quality
Why Bootlegs? They'd be shit quality
No they wouldn't. If they're remastered properly. Bootlegs are not all bad you know.
Okay, Floyd. I WANT OFFICIALLY RELEASED BOOTLEG ALBUMS. Right here, right now... or I will send the dogs.
Send the pigs (three different ones). It would be more floyd-tastic.
Why Bootlegs? They'd be shit quality
I couldn't care less about quality if I get to hear a band experiment with the music they made, live.
Some of the bootlegs are actually quite high in quality like the live In the Flesh concert Time to post pink floyd covers because some are okay and some are just not: I don't think Pink Floyd has been successfully covered much
I don't think Pink Floyd has been successfully covered much
neither have the beatles

The album "Return to the Dark Side of the Moon" is quite a good tribute.
Is it just me, or does The Division Bell have an unexplainible melancholy to it?
Best Pink Floyd cover ever, no contest
Is it just me, or does The Division Bell have an unexplainible melancholy to it?
I personally think it's not a great album. But the reason we like it a lot as fans, is just that "feel". It's simple on the surface but there's a clean, warm feel that keeps you in a trance. It's actually freaky come to think of it.
Could you rank it alongside Wish you were Here and Animals? Think about how creative it is, although things like Marooned are really nice.
I honestly can. The charm of The Division Bell is the mix of simplicity with creativity. It's very diverse, but at the same time follows the KISS principle. Hard to explain Ranking the 9 Pink Floyd albums I've listened to from best to least best, it would be 1. The Wall 2. Wish You Were Here 3. Animals 4. Dark Side of The Moon 5. Saucerful of Secrets 6. The Division Bell 7. Obscured By Clouds 8. Atom Heart Mother 9. The Final Cut
Well that doesn't look like ranking it alongside. :v: But I like how you think.
Critical Rating / Artistic Grade 1. Animals - 5 Stars - A+ 2. Wish You Were Here - 5 Stars - B+ 3. Dark Side of the Moon - 5 Stars - A 4. Meddle - 4.5 Stars - A+ 5. Piper At The Gates of Dawn - 4.5 Stars - A- 6. The Wall - 4 Stars - B 7. Saucerful of Secrets - 3.5 Stars - A 8. The Division Bell - 3.5 Stars - B 9. Ummagumma - 3 Stars - A- 10. The Final Cut - 3 Stars - B+ 11. Obscured By Clouds - 3 Stars - C+ 12. Atom Heart Mother - 2.5 Stars - A- 13. More - 2.5 Stars - B+ 14. Momentary Lapse of Reason - 2 Stars - C-
