*thumbs up* btw heres more awesome >=D
I don't really get what you mean by the bass hanging out in the highs, i think you're referring to another instrument. I don't like being limited to only using one instrument, and I think using multiple intruments produces a better result.
The low bass sound in your song. It puts out too much treble and midrange (i.e. shares sound between a large frequency range) this is not common in dubstep. About the rest of your instruments - there is another simple rule - don't have too many scores (instrument tracks) playing at the same time. Instead have a bass line intercepted by a different, say more treble synth. Heres an example: The first few seconds after 0:18 (the drop) The long sweeping bass gets intercepted by another synth. Example 2: 0:27 (drop) A quick low growl interrupted by whistling bass (they dont sound at the same time) Example 3: 0:55(drop) Samurai (i think) bass gets interrupted by a filthy wobble (once again, they dont sound together) Same trend continues throughout the genre with not too many violators. Low slow paced bass pattern intercepted by a higher pitched (but not always) wobble finish. Produce a better result it may - but then it just wouldnt be dubstep.
I've been creating my dubstep playlist for quite a while now, here are some of the tracks on it. Ah, I see now. Off to work!
I once went to a Bassnectar show, it wasn't very enjoyable, even high. My friends and I sneaked up into the VIP balcony where they were just playing some house and we pretty much chilled up there the entire night. While I want to try to enjoy dubstep, it just seems I can't. :(
Whenever I stumble upon UKFDubstep youtube page I expect to see handpicked dubstep awesome - instead I see something fucking hilarious instead: (listen to the drop XD)
That isn't the hardest part at all the hardest part is getting all the drums and instruments to really groove well together. Also all those youtube tutorials are going to give you pretty shit wobbles. Here's a dubstep tune I started working on and haven't finished yet because I'm busy with work, pretend it's my credentials: http://www.creattivox.com/greem.mp3
My main complaint with dubstep is how simplistic the end result sounds. It often sounds just way too shallow and like it's missing something. My favorite part of dubstep is the wobbling wub, I love wubbing. My favorite person that seems to have a large dubstep influence would be wAgAwAgA, I'd be interested in knowing your opinion of his works and what programs you use as well. On the other side, I find dnb to be overly repetitive, usually sounds like a drum break being looped for about 5 minutes...
Best dubstep song I've heard

Okay, after studying what makes dubstep awesome, here is my second attempt at it. Please bear with my bad usage of FL studio, I am not familiar with most of the functions. Also first time I "made" a synth myself, using an oscillator. The synth wobbles sound alright but its not all about that, you need something to build it up a bit and adding extra synths won't work. Bare in mind i'm being constructive and not a prick lol.

Your synths are WAY too high in the mix and you have no real bass, there's almost no low end at all.
I feel like I hijacked the thread so I'll make my own in CC instead, thanks for all the help I got here guys!
What to you mean by "sub bass"? Sorry I'm such a noob :D
sub bass is a sine wave below 100 Hz come on man, that's basic music production knowledge
I saw this one Modern Warfare 2 Sniper montage video, and it has dubstep music in it. Ignore the fact that it was a MW2 video, I liked the music. If you guys want, suggest me some dubstep remixes off good songs. Something that I'm likely to find on Spotify. Ad I'll do my own search as well.
sub bass is a sine wave below 100 Hz come on man, that's basic music production knowledge
Sin subs are boring, sub doesn't have to mean sin wave below 100Hz. It's all about the tri wavs and lowpassed saws or squares. I generally consider sub bass to be any audio content that's under around 80Hz, doesn't have to be a dedicated instrument, you could have a pad that's got a lot of sub in it or a kick or whatever.
if I'm ever to get high in any way, I'll be kicking it to this.
A big skream fan, some of the Virus Syndicate dubstep is also pretty cool.

InspectorDubplate is a guy on youtube who upload various new dubstep songs and mixes. Serious filth! :flashfap: Latest mix: Friday Filth Sessions EP #1

The little DnB part in the middle is not needed and should be replace by a sub bass. A sub bass is a simple bass (just a clean sound) that follows the bassline 1-2 octaves below it. Much better than your first attempt though.. [editline]08:24PM[/editline]
Whearas DnB has enough variety to keep me interested.
You don't listen to Heist do you?

DnB is my gaming music, I enjoy listening too it. Dubstep is a little to smooth, I want more "trash" feeling and higher tempo.
View YouTUBE video http://youtube.com/watch?v=Eps9qEw5YoI Bassnectar - Boombox Some of his stuff is too fast to be considered dubstep I think. But it's too slow to be considered dnb -my media tags failed horribly
Damn, dubstep just makes me want to PET A FUCKING KITTEN. But seriously, I've been getting into Level 67's stuff. He has a different sound to most dubstep tunes.
