Basically it's citing this one paper by Martin Manalansan where he argues that the push for homonormativity, like the push for gay marriage and gay acceptance and all that other stuff, just puts gay people in a system that is designed for a heterosexual couple, so it will ultimately fail. So like the point is rather than push for gay marriage it's to push for stronger queer communities and junk like that. I had to use all those terms though because it's using this paper to critique this one video of two white gay people, one bio gay and the other ftm trans, saying that getting married would be an act of protest against the state, further progressing gay rights/trans rights movements, keep in mind both the video and the paper were made before the supreme court decision so like it was when gay marriage was still illegal in most places. But at the same time I have to argue that the neoliberal principles of financial and health perks that marriage provide can be seen to outweigh the de-queerification that homonormativity provides. So like hard to word it differently. :v:
