doon or どーん is an explosion effect like bam or bang; yoshikawa is using it for emphasis. sfx in manga is literally anything goes, some artists even make up their own effects
i can imagine it to be like those scene transitions in anime where a drum is struck and then there's some visual gag or ridiculous scene

the thing I find interesting about crime edge is the creepy fetishistic twist they put on the survival/killing game genre, with the hair fetishism and medical/injection fetishism corresponding to their killing goods so far
though (episode 2 spoilers) [sp]it seems they may be dumping that theme, with the hammer shown as a killing good in the preview for the next episode. I can't think of any type of sexual paraphilia that could match up with a hammer. Shame, it would have been interesting to see all the goods with a matching fetish (for example, a whip representing bdsm, maybe some sort of concealed weapon in a shoe to represent foot fetishism, etc, and spending the rest of the series exploring matching themes)[/sp]

Yamada kun is really good, I've been reading too after being recommended it a while back.
Unfortunately, it may never see an anime release, as other titles the creator made haven't gotten the treatment yet.
