Alright, so here's my issue. I'd love to explore a place near here called the "Phoenix Trotting Park". However, it's not within bike-riding distance, and it supposedly has a police patrol roll by every couple of hours. Suggestions?
anyone know good spots near sherman oaks/los angeles?
Could public transport be a good option and maybe keep it low and don't bring attention to yourself?
It's next to a freeway on a surface street, so definitely not. I think I could park my car at a 7/11 or a gas station nearby and keep all of my gear in my backpack 'till I'm out of sight, and just keep out of the line of sight of the street. I'm just worried about getting arrested, but the place is pretty big, and hiding shouldn't be that big of a deal. Word is that they just do an occasional drive-by, so I'm not hugely worried. It's just that this would be my first venture, and I'm nervous.
Just avoid police-heavy areas. If they ask why you're wearing overalls or whatever you wear just say you're on a painting job :v:

Sure, they might keep a local from calling the police on you, but it's much better to just do that "Oh, wandered over here and wanted to get a few photos" thing. The police won't believe your bullshit story about being a nocturnal freelance painter (sounds dangerously like a tagger, too).
I'm glad that this subforum is gaining some attention from the spotlight. It's great to read through the small increase in content here.
Giant Story
Dude, this is awesome. Especially with finding the keys to get into the boiler, it reminds me of a fallout-esque rpg [editline]12th October 2012[/editline]
Turners Falls, a village in Montague, has a bunch of old factory buildings by the river.
I'm actually planing on checking those out after I get a new battery for my camera. Literally a five minute bike ride away :v:
Tomorrow I'm visiting a hydroelectric dam on Lake Whitney here in Texas. The site is maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers. A friend of my dad's (who works there) is taking us inside (there are no official tours offered of the dam, so it'll be behind the scenes and probably pretty cool). I dunno if it'd really be considered urbex (I'm guessing not) but I'm going to take pictures if they (ACoE) let me. Should I post them here? There's this building right across the road from me. I live just below the bottom edge of this picture. The building is deserted, and the gate is closed (the white gate that's open in the image. It's an old image). However, the buildings on the right side area still being used, and I have a pretty good hunch the area around the buildings still being used is patrolled by a security guard (possibly with a dog). I'd love to go there and take a look around, bring my camera, but I have no one to go with and I refuse to alone. This is the building.
Yes
I'm on my way now, I'll try to remember to take lots of pictures & I should have them up later tonight!

Snipped - I'm getting paranoid about trouble related to sharing pictures of the dam. Suddenly the warning seemed a lot less ambiguous in my head. Sorry :v:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympia_Brewery Gonna see if there is any way into here, either the newer building or maybe even the original structure.

I live on a pretty old area, they rebuilt a lot of houses and they are still currently making new ones. It went from shit hole to one of the most expensive areas around. When I was about 7 years old me and my brother would go to the big hill where we live. There was a really big old building there, not sure how old but it was pretty rotten. We managed to jump in from the back in a broken window, it lead into a empty room. We open the only door in the room and it leads into a long hall. And from there all I see is really old furniture, antique. I even see one of those knight statues that I have only seen on tv, like scooby doo lol. On the walls hang big paintings all across the hall. There was tons of dust and it was pretty dark cause the lack of windows, was only 1 far away across the hall. We called it the "ghost house", most kids in the area knew about it and wouldn't bother go near it. So we were pretty hyped and imagined a lot of shit, we heard some sounds that I don't really remember now anymore. We got scared ran out and never returned to go inside of it again. Just a few years later they trash the whole house, make a new one and later was made into a small school. I am serious, the stuff was older than the house itself, could probably have made some money of whatever was in there. Didn't even check the whole house out, could have been a lot of random loot in drawers desk, god knows... Sometimes I wish I could go back and get all that shit, but as a kid you didn't really know the value of stuff.
There's a boring semi-built house near me, is that interesting enough to warrant browsing?

I think its Mill Rd that has at least a dozen foreclosures on it now. Pistol Pete's in pleasantville just closed someone needs to explore that place. -snip, accidentally broke a rule-
the only interesting abandoned buildings in my city is this one which i am pretty sure is guarded by gangsters/mexicans, spray painted "KEEP OUT" and a picture of someone getting shot yep not happening

Sounds like he didn't get nicked, so I'm kinda curious too.
Well, we heard Police on the floor below radioing eachother, they named us as "Graffitiers" there was two officers in the building and a van outside, we went to the top floor where ladders lead to the roof, we then proceeded to shut the hatch to the roof, and scaled across the roof to a small area in the corner of the roof that wasn't visible, we sat there for 20 minutes until the police went and got out of the building, was a fun yet scary experience.
Wow, did the building have CCTV or anything like that, or do you think someone called them?
Well the building had no CCTV or Alarms or anything, but we believe it was someone on their apartment balcony who phoned the police. Damn assholes.
Anyone know any good spots by Cherry Hill in South Jersey?
