strength training should never be put higher than an athletic sport. there is simply no other alternative if you want to be healthy and strong.
Lol I'm not judging you, just normal FP sprit. I lift in Football Camp by the way. Great thread.
Thanks dude, I'm glad someone knows what I'm talking about :). Lifting is awesome.
No, cardio is, it forces your body to break the fat down for energy to keep going where as strength training stresses muscle fibres which mainly use glucose and the like. Basically cardio forces your body to work of it's back up supply fat so it tears through it to keep you going, working your muscles with weights and the like just strengthens the area of the muscles. Of course you should do both in differing degrees depending on the desired effect. Strength/muscles --> strength training and Fat loss --> cardio.
I'm going to disagree with you there. Losing fat is no more complicated than consuming less calories than you need to maintain weight. The problem is that the average facepuncher weighs most likely a measly 120-140lbs. For someone skinny, cardio is probably quicker to lose fat yes, because they most likely only need 2000-2500kcal's a day to maintain weight, and with today's diet of processed foods which contain no vitamins, minerals and fiber leave you feeling hungry aftet you've eaten them (easy to digest), which is the main reason why the majority of people are fat. It's incredibly easy to gain weight eating shitty foods. I agree with you that strength training and medium intensity cardio is a good idea for creating a big calorific deficit.
strength training should never be put higher than an athletic sport. there is simply no other alternative if you want to be healthy and strong.
That's an incredibly naive thing to say, if you knew anything about strength training, and if you had every squatted/deadlifted heavy, your opinion would be from an entirely different perspective. Squatting is one of the most incredible exercises on the planet, it increases anaerobic fitness (similar to sprinting) by thinkening the muscle in the left ventricle in the heart. After a heavy squat/deadlift set, you will be fucking exhausted, and your heart beating like a motherfucker. So go squat a set of 20 with your 10 rep maximum, and come back and say that. Strength training will make you better than healthy and strong.
I don't see why you're bing so high and mighty, if you're going by "wow that's impressive" then you might as well do boxing instead as I'm sure a professional boxer can knock out a strength trainer. That said I think any type of weight training or form of exercise is good and they're equal so if you enjoy this then keep doing it, I'm just saying there's no need to look down on bodybuilders/stamina training.
Actually there is a good reason to look down on body builders, their muscle is for show and usually by the time they are being judged for it their muscles are pretty weak and they frankly just look ill.
I'm doing it but the problem is my metabolism is so shitty I can't gain any weight. I eat like a horse. :saddowns:
I have a very high metabolism too, but if you just keep at it I guarantee that you'll start gaining weight. I've gotten a lot stronger since I started but I haven't gained very much weight yet. It's starting to come, though. The trick is to make your body want those extra muscles. Keep yourself loaded up with protein and carbs at all times, and keep working those weights. Lift as heavy as you can without sacrificing form, hurting yourself won't do you any good. Eat something (real nutritious food, not candy or crisps or some shit like that) when you wake up, as snacks during the day and before you go to bed, as well as the standard meals of the day. Most of all though, stay motivated. I don't know how much of this is already obvious to you, but whatever. Maybe it'll help someone else in that case.

I would be embarrassed as fuck going into a gym in public. I'm a skinny little shit and I would get laughed out of the place probably. I've been meaning to try gaining wait, but I just can't seem to put on any at all, healthy or unhealty. I should start doing shit and get healthy. I'm really out of shape.
Just set your attack style to aggressive, that's how I train Strength.
I bench 235lbs :smug: and I only weigh 130lbs.
I bench 235lbs :smug: and I only weigh 130lbs.
Baw, I only bench 165. I'm working hard on it though! So hopefully I'll reach the 200 mark soon enough. Edit: But holy shit that's an impressive ratio you got there.
Agility and perception are better choices, that way you have better armour class, more APs and faster sequence.

Honestly, I was a skinny little shit at first, and now I'm bigger than the average man with just over a year's training (and that's being inconsistent). Imagine what you will look like after progressing slowly a year, with an extra 60lbs+ on your frame, you'll be the one laughing.
Everyone who trains there started as a skinny shit or a fat chub, don't worry.
I've been training alot over the last year-and-a-half, both endurance and strenght. Great results so far so I just wanted to tell everyone i doubt to hang in there - good results will follow.

Edit: But holy shit that's an impressive ratio you got there.
Its all hard work. Haven't been to the gym in quite a while, so I've put a bit of fat on, so I am at about 140lbs right now. But that fat will turn to muscle real quick. If you haven't looked into some proper suppliments[protein, creatine, nitric oxide preworkout] I suggest you do. It put quite a bit of weight on my bench after about a month or so.

I know that I'm just too lazy to get up and start doing shit but I can't push myself. I might actually start doing shit this summer. I wonder if there's any cheap things I can do in my own home just to get prepared and all.

I weighed 75lbs when I started and could barely rep the bar on the bench 10 times. Just work at it. [editline]06:08PM[/editline]
Yeah you're right, I should really get up. Eat lots of white meat (chicken etcetera) and dairy products (quark etc.), and lots of salads. [editline]12:11AM[/editline] you can train a lot with these two items
will i get FACKIN JACKED and have the ladies all over my unit?
I used to weight train ALOT until i started getting Crepitus in both my knees, now i can only do light cardio to train my leg muscles :(
will i get FACKIN JACKED and have the ladies all over my unit?
You sure as hell will. Bitches love big muscles.
Don't be afraid of going to the gym. Chances are if you go up to some random guy he'll be a jolly folk and definitely answer any questions you may have. That's my experience with the guys at the gym that I go to.
Thanks for the info, guys. Really helpful. I might actually do shit this summer.
Thanks for the info, guys. Really helpful. I might actually do shit this summer.
You better. Or we will hunt you down :clint:
I've been strength training for around 3 1/2 months and I gotta say, it's highly worth it.

I've been wanting to get into better shape so i can be a bit faster in Hockey next year.
I think power lifters are stupid. I do pull ups, push ups, a shit load of ab stuff, leg work outs, etc. I would rather be strong and look nice instead of fat. Cardio is a must too. I use some weight stuff... but only try to lift as much as you can and never trying to do anything involving speed is just dumb. You will just look fat and have health problems in the end.
What's the easiest way to simply tone fat? I've been going out for a bike ride/jog, then doing some sit-ups, with no real effect so far. What else should I do?
There is no such thing as toning. Toning is a falsity coined up by the fitness industry big wigs looking to get rich off housewives by making them spend thousands of dollars in gym memberships never getting anywhere. Either lose bodyfat, or gain muscle. That will get you better definition. Majority beginners will actually experience what's called "newbie gains" when they first start hard weight training, where if you're eating enough food, you'll easily put on a few KGs of muscle in the space of a few weeks, while possibly losing bodyfat. And your balance? I guarantee you any high level powerlifter's balance smashes yours. As for strengthening the heart, you can go read the research yourself, won't be hard to find. Like the other guy said, it's similar to max effort sprinting. Not biased here btw, I'm not a powerlifter. Top level athletes in all different sports must be packing on the pot bellies then. Box for you, for spouting shit that you really have no clue about. [editline]01:28AM[/editline]
I've been wanting to get into better shape so i can be a bit faster in Hockey next year.
Weight training will definitely help with explosiveness, just don't be a pussy and do your squats.
