I remember reading somewhere that a child can cost up to 250,000 dollars a year.

The point was think of all the technology advancements WWII brought about, and the Cold War that was set in motion afterward, with all the tech progress that came with that. If Hitler had not really disliked Jews, we probably wouldn't be using computers right now, nor would we be using planes as a main transportation method.

The worth of planes as a transportation method wasn't necessarily linked to wartime advancement. Development of planes was already speeding up prior to WWII anyway, especially since they've used fighter planes since WWI.
