"They buy so many fucking toys, I love Bronies."- Lauren Faust probably. [sp]Kidding, I know that she and Craig McCrakken are way cooler than that, but still, Bronies are the reason the show is as prevalant as it is. The only thing I can see her disliking is all the porn, and if her views are anything like Craig's ("Yes, I have seen it. No, we shall never mention it again"), then I can see her overlooking it.[/sp]
She mentioned the porn of her pony-self creeps her the fuck out, and she really just likes to ignore it. I'd like to see her actual opinion on the porn and sexual images of the characters though, would be interesting :v:
as someone who aspires to write some day I have to say I'd kinda be really bothered seeing a character someone created getting fucked in perverse fantasies could be my ocd but I just wouldn't be okay with that
It seems we're getting to the talk-about-minority-of-fandom-that-faps-to-it part of the discussion, so here's some content.
There is nothing decent for girls animation because you never produce anything good. What the fuck does "Girl things" even mean? I don't know what the fuck "Girl Things" even means so please explain. Is that like fucking Barbie or something? I'm almost certain most shows like Avatar, Regular Show appeal to most people male and female alike. I'm completely sure "Girl things" is the downfall animation for Girls because you end up with shit like this. Honestly, I've seen the show. And their goal of creating something that kids can watch with their parents is more or less accomplished. It reminds me of the Powerpuff Girls, which I fucking love (figures, since it's Faust), so yeah. It's like PPGs lite. PPGs had blood, sexual innuendo, and one brilliant episode where literally every single line of diologue after about 5 mins in is a Beatles reference. MLP has passing references to stuff like Looney Tunes and Big Lebowski, but it's all background easter-eggy stuff. To put it in perspective, the age demos from highest to lowest would look something like this: PPGs > Foster's > MLP. The show I have no beef with. I'm not the target audience, so I'm not gonna shit all over it because it has little to offer me. It's the (obsessive, creepy, featured-in-threads-such-as-this) fans that drive me fucking monkey bananas.
Very many, if not most cartoons have something in there to appeal to parents. But let's face it, noting will ever come close to matching Steven Spielberg's cartoons.

We got stuff like Animaniacs, Batman, Spongebob, PPGs and the like that made it fun for parents to watch along too. Luckily, it seems like they're realising what a good idea this was, with stuff like Phineas and Ferb, Gravity Falls, Regular Show, and (the sadly cancelled) Batman TBATB pull this off with bells on.

Stop trying to bullshit with this self assurance shit. Its not like Hasbro didn't make the show with the intention of selling toys to little girls and only selected Laruren Faust to be the creator so that nobody immediately shits on the show. Makes sense seeing as how most Bronies have this misconception that Lauren literally made most of the good shows on Cartoon Network
It was originally aimed for females. Then Faust saw the potential for profit when there was a massive fanbase that was 90% male, so he threw in a fuckton of references girls wouldn't understand to keep the community erect for purchasing horses with holes that fit micropenis

Its not like Hasbro didn't make the show with the intention of selling toys to little girls and only selected Laruren Faust to be the creator so that nobody immediately shits on the show.
The reason it's perceived as a "girls show" is the same reason why nothing will ever have the same success as MLP. MLP has a history of being "for girls" - every generation until this one have been designed as a show exclusively towards girls. The show stars ponies, which are usually seen as girly ("Mommy, I want a pony!"), and used to market toys to little girls. Everyone grew up with this as the attitude - MLP was that girly toy that had that girly show. Hell, I grew up with it - albeit generation 3, but it was never a show that any guy was supposed to like. Generation 4 - FiM - was also a hasbro show to sell toys to girls. But it wasn't designed exclusively to be towards girls and exclusively to sell toys - that was a large part, yes, but was not the only design goal. But since everyone grew up with MLP as that girly thing that you weren't supposed to like, many people were immediately opposed to it. This seems like a reason for it to be unpopular, but that's not the case. Besides the people interested in it for Faust's previous credits (Yes, she had them, see the end of this post), there's also the attention whores - they may actually like the show, but they know that they're not supposed to, so they'll do all they can to let you know they like it, so you'll pay attention to them. This is why I both think that no show will ever match the success of MLP, and why bronies have a reputation of annoyingness. No show has the same combination of decades of being a girls show, the topic (ponies), and being a kids show that makes it so hated. And all the attention whores it attracted causes the stereotype to be "annoying brony who won't shut up" Also, though Faust didn't create Foster's Home or PPG, she was story supervisor, story editor, supervising producer, storyboard artist, and character designer on Foster's and writer on PPG.

Just going to toss this out there because I typed it up and feel the need to at least get it in now before the topic is dropped for like a page or two then brought back up: The show itself is fine. It's nothing particularly spectacular, but it is/was something interesting before the community put it on such an untouchable pedestal that it doesn't really deserve. It was just another in a string of well done animated shows aimed at young children, but in this case it was aimed at little girls and everybody was sort of shocked it was a good and some people had it in their heads that watching it made you progressive or some shit. As it stands now, the "Brony Community" has devolved into something akin to a circlejerk. I don't see any real harm in simply watching a show and enjoying it for what it is, but it seems more and more that people are getting caught up in simply being "I am somebody who watches a show aimed at young girls look at me I am different this is a defining characteristic I have" and less "I enjoy watching MLP". I know that's sort of a general stereotype, and obviously not every person who watches the show is like that, but it seems an increasing number of them are. maybe i'm wrong idk why is this always mlp general debate
What the fuck did I just say? She didn't make Power Puff Girls or Fosters Homes for Imaginary Friends. That was her Husband. I swear to god I wonder how it must feel to get your achievements given to someone else because your wife has no actual feats to make a few manchildren feel good about watching a show. Again self assurance Shit I know several bronies who think that Wander Over Yonder is by Lauren Faust too. When its another show again by her husband. Its like everything he makes is now used to fit the needs of a select few man children.
It was mostly Craig, but she was still heavily involved, is what I'm saying. [editline]7th September 2012[/editline] I was also just referencing them since, aside from Faust's involvement, the have similar tones (a group of multicolored females, each with different personalities taking down monsters and learning lessons, friendship, etc.) But believe me, I do know and respect Craig McCrakken, dude's a genius.
Come on guys, This isn't the cartoon creation debate megathread. If you want to continue arguing can't you just take it to PMs?
i personally think that the show's cast and producers are actually trying too hard to ween the show towards bronies i would have no problem with bronies, furries, or weeaboos if they just kept their mouths shut. we wouldn't even have those phrases if they didn't go parading around "HAY GUYS I LIKE FURRY FOX DICKS GIVE ME ATTENTION NAO"
I really don't understand how people get so mad at people in fandoms. You're on the internet, where people can express themselves in any way they want with almost no repercussion. If it really bothers you that much, just ignore them. [editline]6th September 2012[/editline] i mean seriously it's not like people liking and obsessing over a cartoon is going to end the universe as we know it.

I understand standing up for something you're a fan of guys, but really, the only time we didn't go on a MLP debate on a page is when diapers were posted. We don't need to see the same arguments every page about cartoons on a thread about posting shitty dA material.
