To illustrate why these are so horrid, let's look at a GOOD picture involving 9/11 and a fictional character:

1. Note how the character in question (Cap) ISN'T blocking everything out. He's faded and in the background. Not plastered over a shitty red white and blue background/poorly MSPaint-ed WTC.
2. The context makes sense. Captain America is an American symbol, an icon. His colors are Red, White and Blue. He's a veteran. What does a sparkledog or Sonic OC have to do with America or 9/11?
3. It's not over-the-top dark. There's no Michael Bay explosions and flames. There's no gratuitous blood and gore. It doesn't pretend to be "dark" because it doesn't NEED to. The artist clearly was familiar with a little thing called "taste".
4. The artist put more work into this than spending an hour in MSPaint. They actually cared enough to make it not look like shit.
So I lurked DeviantArt to find a ponified world war 1.
But it seems that brony artists are too poorly educated to know what World War One was about.
