Pyramid head represents a male-dominated, chauvinistic society that abuses women. The head of the woman in his hand represents the objectification of women and their social requirement to wear beautification products such as makeup in order to not be "ugly."
The graffiti on the wall represents outsiders' wishes to escape from societal norm by breaking from rules and laws. The stores in the background and the purple shoes stand for American consumerism. The "Exit" door is a symbol of escapism such as suicide and drug abuse.
The "sludge of society" leaks through the vent on the left while the "curtains pulled over the ugliness of society" are on the building to the right.
