No, that not it at all. I love Dragon Age, the Clock Tower series, and Nier, and those games were dark and violent as well.
The reason why I don't like the Mortal Kombat series, is that it doesn't grow at all. It's all gimmicks and nothing more. The characters are dull, one dimentional stereotypes, the plot had potential, but got wasted on unfunny pop culture references in foreign fantasy worlds (I mean really? Also this person never draws Felicia with any real defining features. Nothing that makes the character stand out. No ears, no tail, etc.
