There is no meaning to life, it's entire existence is lucky to be there at all. The meaning of life is what you want it to be.

I've read the first three books twice, watched the movie, and I'm halfway through the fourth one.

Well life itself does not exist for a reason, much as a stone does not exist for a particular reason. The purpose of life however, can be boiled down to replicating your RNA (not DNA) - in other words, to keep life going.

I consider my goal in life to experience as many beautiful things as I can. 'Meaning' is a bit more ambiguous and it's very hard to define that.
I don't believe the universe itself actually gives a single toss [I]what[/I] humanity does. Unless we discover a way of breaking/altering physical law itself, on the larger scale of things we don't matter any more than a rock (but that's not to say a rock isn't equally as much a part of the universe than everything else in it).
If everyone really considered their beliefs a little more, I think the general direction humanity wants to go in is [I]progress[/I], whatever that entails.
