Good job getting rid of the lines. Your next step is start pushing darks and really understanding form. Observational drawing/painting should help. Also its too saturated but I understand that's part of the style you're going for. Might be smart to be more judicious with colour choices and saturation in future. Still, nice improvement! Looks good
Also I'm loving these rings haha. This is the coolest thing I've ever made

Trying to do figure drawing studies. First one is from Sycra's video on drawing the male body from the front, the heads are from Proko's video, and I'm going to be doing a lot of them per day, hopefully.
Any criticisms or mistakes to spot, or advice in general?
Also, apologies for the shitty camera quality, I try to hold it as still as I can but just the motion of pushing the 'take picture' button is enough to fuck it up.

Draw more boxes and cylinders in different angles, I know it sounds boring or easy, but I've had a problem where a lot of my drawings would end up really flat and if you can draw simple forms like cubes and cylinders and are able to break down complex forms such as the human body or head into them and then divide divide divide into more details as the drawing goes on, you can pretty much draw anything.
I don't really know how to explain it properly but try to get into a 3d mindset when you're learning these things and try not to copy things/lines directly. You can try drawing bounding boxes for everything too and see if that helps.

Maybe its just not my kind of thing, but I feel that the saturation of pretty much all the colours is really heavy. Almost unpleasant, thats just quite a personal opinion though.
One thing I would say with a bit more confidence is that the foreground is getting really lost, I'm guessing that the floating orange/yellow bits are falling leaves, but rather than standing out they kind of end up being pushed back.
Another thing that might be quite jarring is the green you've chosen, it kind of clashes with the orange, the two colours are really similar in saturation as well which further flattens the image.
While desaturating colours makes them colder it also draws them further back into the image which will help you push perspective and distance.
The sky by the way, I really like, but unfortunately its getting a bit lost.
:)
Thanks. I'm not sure I agree on the saturation or the green clashing but I definitely agree about the issues with the depth being confusing. I was about 20 minutes into a painting and couldn't figure out a way to make the foliage work with it so just went with something a little bit crazy, so I'm not surprised it didn't quite work. I feel like if I were to lessen the saturation as you get deeper into the picture it would work better but I don't think I'll do another painting like that as it was an experiment more than anything. Thanks for the feedback.

Here's two humanoid dudes I made, pretty proud of em so far but I can't deny that they require improvement in some areas.

well the one on the left looks female, but you said dudes, so maybe make it more masculine, unless it is female, then it's ok.
also hands are probably way too small. Can't really tell since there are no heads

First one, yeah, I kinda use the term "dude" as a gender-neutral term. She's a chick.
Second, yeah I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!
Anyone here feel confident enough to make a book cover for me? I'm looking for a digital painting of a fairly high quality. Probably paying between $100-150, but if that isn't reasonable for this kind of work feel free to let me know.
Details by PM. Thanks all.

Are you self publishing or going through a conventional publisher? Usually conventional publishers will have their own illustration contacts - after all, they know what sells, what doesn't and thus how to market your work.
I'm not sure how self-publishing works with this sort of thing, nor how contracts work with book covers in either field, but I would imagine it would be royalty based. I mean if you do a cover for $150 and the book sells millions of copies, royalties seems more ethical.

Self publishing. Book covers are almost never royalty based. It's just that the really, really amazing cover artists (EG, Jason Chan) charge stupid amounts (upwards of $2k) per cover. Off to sleep now, will read replies and PMs in the morning.

Do you have sources for that?
TBH 2k is not a lot to pay for design work. I don't know the exact pay for design/illustration, but I know for concept art the artist is looking at $NZ40-50/hour at entry level. 2k would be one week full time for the cover, and I imagine (I might be wrong) that that wouldn't be an excessive amount of time to spend on something like this.
If you want to make a good cover for a book you should probably know what is written inside, by reading it.
