nobody draws in vector lol it looks bad unless you want a very specific style
Vector stuff can look good, it's mostly just Flash lines that look shit. And that's not because it's vector, it's because Flash has bad smoothing
Vector stuff can look good
That stuff must be really well hidden then
That stuff must be really well hidden then
You probably just don't notice it's vector
I'm not sure if I should wait longer between my posts here. Don't want to feel like I'm spamming the thread up with my shit.
But, I've continued working on my friend's band group drawing, and edited some things. I tried making the lead singer Danielle a bit more effeminate (on the far left) and the bassist (far right) more "sexy", by his request haha.

Did I do good? Also, if you guys have any feedback feel free to post it, even if it's brutal. I'm past my days of getting offended for constructive criticism. Art requires some masochism eh?
Repost from the 3D thread
Hey! Me and some friends finished this today. Its a 4 week uni project, we had to design and make a playable environment based on the theme 'container city', we were limited to 10 x 1024 texture sheets. Its still WIP because we plan to go back and add sound.
I was the engine guy, so I put all the stuff in the environment together from smaller props that were made and textured by the other dudes.

you need to work with flash a lot/be really comfortable with it but you can totally make the lines look like not shit if you take your time

im not saying the smoothing isn't awful because it is, but it can be dealt with
I made this 3d projection mapping video with my friend:

Wondering if I should carry on with these, maybe start doing master studies to nail down the fundamentals ?
Having looked around for landscape masters I really loved the work that Frederic Church / Albert Bierstadt and the other Hudson river artists produced (some of the most beautiful paintings I've ever seen really), and it'd be a life's dream to paint even remotely close to their skill level.
that feel when someone's "quickie" or "random doodle" looks about 5000 times better than anything you can make
Hm, I've sat here typing and deleting a response to this for the past 10 minutes trying to articulate a reply.
Just keep drawing, the skill comes with hours put in. My skill level was this good about 50~ hours of painting ago. Most of the time I bear no fruit even after 5+ hours of drawing...but everything is mileage and it all matters.

I've heard of people who find it insulting when you say they are talented, like it is implying that they didn't work their asses off to get where they are. Basically talent is a joke, hard work is where the improvement comes from.
Anyway something that is sticking out to me is the right side of the mountain is just as bright as the side that is facing the setting sun. I feel like it should be quite a bit darker.

Master copies should come after fundamentals, get more foundation first

Aye, natural affinity for drawing/painting is all well and good. But as you say, work is where the real improvement comes from.
Tried to fix up that mountain, feel like I lost something in the process but you're right about the lighting being off.

More foundation it is then. Will continue to work my way through the James Gurney book "Color and Light" it seems to be a fantastic source of knowledge.
fb page is a bit quiet eh

I think the first thing anyone should redress for serious improvement is just drawing ability as a base to work on. Strong observational drawing to where you have your process nailed down, you know that you can reproduce whatever is put in front of you and your drawings look nice. I think that going straight into colour and light theory might have you hitting a ceiling at some point and getting frustrated in trying to apply it without strong drawings underpinning it. case in point Gurney is better at drawing than he is at painting, imo

I think all the activity should stay on FP tbh, the fb page doesn't have any external audience. If people have brushes or do tuts or something that would be nice to have easily accessible the fb page is useful, dunno why you'd post art there though. unless you wanted a better chance of getting crit I suppose
Post wherever tbh, I like seeing your guys stuff pop up on my news feed. Double post if you want, it ain't no thang
Oh, thank God, I thought this thread was gone.
Those mushrooms didn't turn out well, I know.

Started work on something new, same style as most of my shit but it was fun to make so whatever. Sorry for signing it.

I'm trying to find the will to work my way through all the art threads look for good critique. A while ago I started bookmarking posts with really sound advice and recently had the idea of trying to create an archive of everything and then forming some sort of eBook out of it.

That's a great idea, by the way. Sticking them to the op would be pretty useful.
I like to draw a lot, but I get angry at my art quite frequently. For once, I made something I'm pretty happy with.

I was hoping to do an OP in a similar vein to the 'What are you working on' programming thread, with one image per user and a brief blurb, that that's a way cooler idea!! Some sort of casual community art book would be neat

Started using ACDSee to organise my reference pictures.
Got 1000 images and I have to go through and tag them all oh my good lord

people kept pestering me to change my profile picture to Jim Parsons because they think I "look like sheldon".
so I made this. It was good self-portrait practice, regardless of how silly it is.
