bunch o sketches
The bottom left one in the first image (the fat thing with huge tusks) is awesome, you're also really damn skilled with a pen / pencil.
Tried making an animation to one of my favourite songs. Not really an animator, but figured it might be a good portfolio piece to help me get into motion graphics.
is it weird to hate something more the more you work on it school and work have been taxing so i haven't really been super productive.. but anyways i wanna make this as good as i can so, anymore crit is welcome also i feel like the guy in the middle throws it off? but i'm not sure

tried making a character with some inspiration from professor layton's artstyle
I've started doing traditional art. Canvases, paint, brushes, knives. Mostly due to Bob Ross inspiring me. Figured I would post some here. Did this one over the course of a few hours. Layer-based, with acrylics. [t]http://pre15.deviantart.net/18e7/th/pre/i/2015/322/3/3/winter_distance__acrylic__by_coyotemation-d9h5mgc.png[/t] ( Higher res on dA: http://coyotemation.deviantart.com/art/Winter-Distance-Acrylic-573011436 ) This is the fourth ever serious painting I've done in my entire life, third one using techniques I learned via Bob Ross with proper equipment. And I really love doing it.
Bob Ross's stuff works best with oils as the consistency is very different and it doesn't dry for months which lets you do the wet on wet thing which his methods rely on. I recommend giving oil a go, especially with a palette knife it's really nice stuff to use. Cool painting and concept, the only thing I would say is push your values more - the rocks and trees closer to us are a little washed out. If not then you could move the middle man over to the right more. I'm not basing this on anything specific it's just a feel really. If the comp is bothering you then I'd make a new layer over the top, trace a rough line drawing over everything, hide the painting and move bits of the line drawing around until the comp feels right, then paint in the changes. Try flipping it horizontally as well to get that semi-fresh pair of eyes. But dude, if you hate it then why not just do another picture? We spend enough time at work and school doing stuff we don't want to do without doing that to ourselves in our personal art too.
Ive been getting back into art as of late. Did these during class so I only had note book paper on me. Weapons of choice: mechanical pencil hb 2 and a piece of graphite I think 2b but the mechanical pencil colors darker for some reason. Think it has to do with the infinite sharp point, love it.
Practicing faces with some quick sketches, finally starting to get close to where i was when working traditionally, coordination wise anyway.

That's a pointless fight with acrylics. I was more-so taking in the general brush-handling and use of paint knives, something I'd never considered before. The few times I painted before using all these tools I settled with basically water-colors and a small brush and a big brush. Watching Bob Ross just kind of opened my eyes to just how complex the process can be, and how much of a difference the complexity of the process can be to the final result. But I'm definetely aiming to try out oil, they're just a bit more expensive around here than acrylics. So I'll have to wait til' my salary drops in! And thanks for the feedback! Yeah, now that you mention it I could probably have pushed the white a bit on the trees, given some stronger contrasts.
Thanks, that's really what I wanted to practice, it was a colour study more than anything. If you haven't already, you should check out Simon Stålenhag's paintings. He's my favourite artist and a big inspiration for the atmosphere he gets into his pictures. He nails that kind of warm light in the cold type atmosphere. http://www.simonstalenhag.se/
Thanks for sharing that link, this guy is awesome! I swear he is just painting over photos the rendering is so realistic. His knowledge of light is mind boggling.
I got bored in the army and made an ear plug minion
A little scene I did to practice rock textures.
A little scene I did to practice rock textures.
Good shot with really nice rendering of the coast and town down in the bottom right, I think more atmospheric perspective is needed in general though and your values are a little bit "careful" - on an actual rock face I would expect to see very high contrast light and shadow due to the hard edges and intense daylight that the scene is set in.
So, I recently started with Darkwave Studio, and made ... this .... I don't know ... (Inb4 SoundCloud Appreciation Station) By the way, does someone knows how to use samples in Darkwave ? And how to make the sound ... less shit ?
A little scene I did to practice rock textures.
The light values are there for a rock texture, but there isn't much "texture" to speak of. Its got that clay / play-doh look to it. The bottom right stuff is nice though.

reminds me of a borderlands type environment. Looks good.

I dunno the best sub to put it in but I am fairly certain if you posted it in the right place you could get tens of thousands of views on this.

Thanks.
Here's a character my friend conceptualized. He was a professor that found a cursed ruby, and can now shoot fire from his hands. Also this is one of the few times I'll post art with lines.

this looks great so far, but the perspective is off in places like the planks, the chains and some of the stuff lying around in the background. have you tried building the set in 3d and then painting over it after? it works miracles for the issues i face with perspective, and saves a lot of time too.
You are really good at painting so I have to ask, this is a 3D render right?
Yep. Done in 3dsmax with Vray. jeff and al, a classic brains and brawn duo! jeff is very rational and great with machinery, but al is good at intrapersonal stuff and is very strong also any critique on my anatomy or style or whatever would be appreciated. one thing i can see right now is that al has overly distorted arms
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the kind words. It's a bit hard to get work out in the public eye but I'll try. Also Rusty, I hope I didn't give the impression that I'm completely new to animation. But character animation and rigging is something I've largely avoided until now.
'Did a quick scene to relax myself... Quite boring jobs these days.
Really digging this scene. It's got a very distinct neo Tokyo/slummish feel to it. Could you share some of your references?
A friend of mine said he's be interested in watching my painting as a timelapse so I did that. Here's the painting - And here's the video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=al_V79w73JY
