Finished this today, First thing I ever painted in Sai. Snake ended up looking like Clint Eastwood.

Well, as you said my refs are all the neotokyo or cyberpunk slums stuff I can find on the web. Pinterest is a goldmine for that.
Photos of nuclear plants interiors inspire me a lot too. In fact all things that has this organic feeling.

Some places like Kowloon city (picture on the right) or real life models from Spirited Away (left picture) are my refs for this particular render.
Wanted to put everything I learned so far into practice. So this is what I made.
Anyone have any tips or guides when it comes to faces and head shapes? I am having a very difficult time trying to grasping the idea how to draw facial features and jawlines.

I'm currently attempting to create a UT99-styled model, and I'd like some critique on this unfinished face texture.

Other than pushing the values, what do you guys think I should do with this?

Nice drawings, though quick question, what kind of paper or pencils do you use? Just regular, or something different?

I went ahead and fixed the faint lighting when I had the chance at school (I did the texture in blender, but I didn't have Photoshop so I couldn't have done any quick brightness/contrast editing at home).

I mainly use HB pencils and rough, grainy papers

Your colour, value and perspective are good, but I would ditch the low opacity as it makes everything look muddy and soft. It's very common to see people starting out doing it. If you switch to 100% opacity, you will likely find it quite difficult and you will notice mistakes in your paintings which are hard to fix. These mistakes exist when you use the soft low opacity stuff, except they are covered in a veil of blurryness which makes them hard to spot.
Not to say low opacity doesn't have a place, it's just not everywhere, especially not edges and places where sudden value changes should occur.

Thanks man, I kinda just started painting, aside from the 3 I posted, I havent painted since I was a kid. But yeah I understand what your saying, it does kinda feel like I'm cheating a bit, but since i have no experience it takes quite awhile for me to do something like this. When I try to make it more solid and clear cut it ends up looking like shit. Just gotta practice I guess.
I'm pretty bummed out over having not uploaded much, but here's something

well the muddiness looks bad too, so i don't really think that it is helping.
[editline]23rd November 2015[/editline]
practice is a good idea tho.

Any better? (I kinda want the background to be a bit muddy)
way better.
The water looks less water-y now, though.
Oh, that's water? Then yeah. I thought it was, like, sand or something
water rarely has shadows as dark as that. it's translucent to transparent, it bounces and refracts light through itself.
at the very least you should be able to see some of the wall through the water
Thought it was sand inside a hallway in a pyramid or something.
The water looks less water-y now, though.
probably a good thing since i don't think it is meant to be water. I thought it was sand
Well it's actually... You know what it's whatever you want it to be. :v:
so I was bored in class and decided to draw the first badassery that came to mind

It's like almost 1 am or something, but if you set your Opacity to 100%, doesn't that technically mean you can't mix colors since it just draws over it? or am I just overthinking it?
