done with this one
What metal is it made of? Just wondering because for a wearable that could be on the skin of the wearer for hours at a time, it's important that it doesn't oxidise with exposure to the air and sweat, and even more important, it can't be toxic.
I made this with art clay. Some japanes clay that contains almost only silver particles. I fired it with a hand held kitchen butane torch. It's supposed to be 99.9% silver now, thats good right?
I'm wondering about something to do with perspective, and it's probably a really common problem that a lot of beginners have. A lot of times whenever I have two vanishing points on a piece of paper, the perspective appears really distorted. Obviously, I would need to move the vanishing points farther apart in order to fix the problem, but what would I need to do if it turns out that I have to draw the vanishing points outside of my canvas? Would I need to initially border my sheet of paper so that I don't have to idiotically draw on the desk? What other solutions are there?
This is only for digital painting, but Carapace really simplifies drawing perspective lines so you don't have to waste a couple minutes setting it up. I don't even draw but if I wanted to start I'd see myself using this a lot.

There's fancy digital ways to do it, but otherwise, if you're drawing from observation you can just eyeball it / measure the angle as you do with any other relative angle in observation drawing, or if it's from imagination I just have an idea in my head of where the vanishing point exists in 2D space in relation to my canvas, like in my head I see the canvas floating on a grey space with the horizon line going through it and my vanishing points out there in the grey, and in my head I trace a line out from the vanishing point and I can see the line in my head so I know the angle. I always draw in the horizon line.
Holy cow. So pro, man, take all my winner ratings. Do you have a site?
What do they look like pre-paint? Can / do you buy super detailed unpainted models?
I thought it was a cosplay until I saw the disembodied head.

No site, just a facebook page right now. Facebook.com/badmothertattoos but my posting of paint there is sporadic.

A bit hard to explain. There is the body, the outfit, and in some cases, an completely unpainted headsculpt that requires paint. But then you have full figures mass produced, prepainted headsculpts mass produced, outfits mass produced etc etc.
Does anybody else ever go through all the old CWTDDATs? I've done it a couple of times just because I love seeing where some of you guys started and how far y'all have come. I haven't been here much more than a year but it's also still cool to reminisce on the times when I sucked arse (even more than I do now) :v:
I don't look at old threads but I sometimes look at my old sketchbooks to see how far I've come.
I'm still not the best but I've come a LOOOONG way in 3 or so years of taking my drawings more seriously.

I just did a quarter of human figure in college and I have improved a ton I think... Hopefully. Although I never post any of my work here cuz i am lazy

I really need to practice painting hair. It's the main thing that I'm still sort of puzzled by.

Hello, new wallpaper!

If you use a 16:9 screen, I also made a version to better fit them without being stretched or distorted! Thank you for using it.

a bit of progress on this, do any of you guys ahve some suggestions? i know this has plenty of problems and ways to improve it, right now I'm looking for ways to make the right side more interesting
maybe adding another character? as for the painting itself, I'm not sure if I wanna keep the clouds or not
any constructive criticism is appreciated
Moving the figure in the center more to the right could help. Generally you want more room in the composition in the direction that a thing is facing, with, obviously, less room behind it.
First try creature sketching, i'm really horrible at lineart.. This took me waaaay to long.

I usually just play around with where I put stuff when I'm doing an initial sketch thing. I don't think you need any fancy composition knowledge although it helps, you can kind of feel when stuff is in the right place. If I painted that I'd have the people down in the bottom right, the star thing in the top left, and I've have the whole thing on a wider aspect ratio to make it more cinematic. But I do that so much it's going to become a cliché of mine.
But when you look at it, you can feel that the left person is too close to the edge of the picture and it makes it claustrophobic, the man in the middle feels unbalanced, like I just feel like moving him over to the right to kind of balance it out. The feeling of distance is compromised by the low FOV. Everyone feels that stuff because if they didn't, there wouldn't be consensus on what is good, so do initial sketches and mess with stuff before you paint it in.
