Huion tablets are well recommended by most people that post here, and they come in at a fraction of the cost of Wacom, yet very similar if not the same in quality. Just less flashy.
Alright cool I'll check them out, is there a specific model I should try getting?
I envy people who can crosshatch well holy shit. Also on the underside of the arm with the white line did you scratch out the ink or just plan ahead and fill around it?
Never tried scratching out ink. Sounds like a good way to just rip the paper (with the cheap paper I use at least).
I managed to plan ahead and not accidentally fill over the area this time, but I have this white pen thing and a correction pen in case I need to fix something. Like the bedroll on the snufkin drawing for example.
Here's some stuff that I've made during my last school semester

A really shitty drawing machine. Each drawing represents one battery life.

A video installation made using projection mapping.

A large marionette doll controlled by an electric desktop fan.

Two sculptures I made that are meant to erode over a long period of time. They have an internal circulation system made out of aquarium pumps.
tbh I liked the marionette better with the motivational speaker track.
tbh I liked the marionette better with the motivational speaker track.
Yeah I think that was a better video piece too. I shot this new video for an application to a sculpture programme so I thought the video should focus more on the "sculpture". Not sure if I made the right decision though.

experimenting with color techniques that i find personally satisfying. i want to be able to make both good looking colored and non colored images
I'm thinking about trying out one of these. $449 for a 22" 1080p cintiq clone seems pretty good.

I ordered one despite the sketchy reviews. Let's see if I wasted 5 hundo.

Not sure if you're looking for feedback but if you are, I recommend establishing stronger light/dark planes to help establish the geometry of what you're painting. That and tighter edge control would really help tell me what I'm looking at.
Anyway this is getting close to being done

Was out last night to a 50/60's surf & rockabilly nightclub, got pretty drunk.
Came back to the flat and suddenly remembered past me bought a mixed Roti kebab and stashed it for when I got home.
I was in awe of said kebab.
Inspiration comes from the strangest places...

This thread still continues to be nice to browse. Wish I had something to provide, but I doubt that my criticism of function really adds much :v:
Cool concepts Salmonmarine and Deathtrooper, body armor designs are some of my favorite things to look at and one of the more fun things to design engineering wise. Salmonmarine, yours has quite a bit of character, too!

I do wish I could draw well enough to draw concept sketches of spacecraft and stations though. Or be able to draw various planetary bodies. Saturn is a well of inspiration, that planet has so many neat things going on.

Now you tell me
Two questions; Often things get linked here about learning drawing fundamentals. I don't have those links anymore. What were the books/sites you recommend for learning the fundamentals? I think it was something with Loomis
Secondly, could we add that to the OP? I'm not the first person to ask

I have done about 120 figure drawings in 3 days and i have improved already, can't wait to see the results in a month. I'm really going hard right now, trying to draw at least 4 hours a day. Before i drew like 3 times a week.. But i said fuck it let's improve my skills for real. It feels so good..

What references are you using? Are they online?
I really want to improve as well, and I want to be happy enough with my stuff to post here without feeling disappointed in myself :pudge:

There are some more but these ones should be fine. Don't be afraid of posting, if anything, it will only make you improve faster - I would've posted some of my shit already but I can't seem to finish anything I start on.

Yes I'm drawing on envelopes a) because it's all I had b) because it makes a nice canvas to work in

When you're doing a rounded object you should complete your ellipses - wrap your lines around the form. Just to get the most out of abstract practice like this.

from a few pages ago -
tbh I don't think you've improved it from the b&w sketch really. You've added colour pops but they feel very contrived, and apart from that it's all monochrome - presumably you painted over the b&w with green on overlay or a similar method of tinting. those techniques are really easy to spot and they very rarely work very well. An overlaid-colour image seldom looks any stronger than its greyscale, since the greyscale underneath the overlay is doing 99% of the work anyway. I'm actually glad you did this because everyone should take note of this pitfall. !!!!!!!read this!!!!!!! colouring this way is so common with people who can get a concept down, can stick some sort of composition or scene or character together, but can't really paint. It's a cheap way of reaching past limitations to get to a "finished" piece. So beware of this anybody who is at an early or intermediate stage.
