Looks good, only thing I can really say at that point would be some darker blacks to really pull it off the paper. Also I feel like the back lip of the shoe (the part that covers the back of the ankle) in the background should be poking up over the shoe in the foreground if the height of it is anything comparable to the one in the front.

I've been trying out painting It's pretty fun
Some practice on facial features, about an hour painting an old guy's face.
Use a higher opacity, and a lower flow or you will get those washed out values. Also keep in mind edges and blending in shadow should be soft while light has harder, more abrupt edges. So for example your nose holes should have softer lines as currently the black dots are being pulled and look more like solid black platforms jutting from the face rather than holes. Harsh lines and darker values pull things forward, while washed out values will generally portray things farther away unless we are doing a very moody piece in which the majority is black. So the combination really pulls those forward.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/AVTDgoY.jpg[/t] did a self portrait. I need to fix the crossed eyes and the nose amongst other things but I'm going to go get some sleep first and then wake up do discover all of the other things I fucked up on.

Doing some life study:

That is fantastic My only criticism is that the sails are slightly oddly green.
That is fantastic My only criticism is that the sails are slightly oddly green.
whats the problem with that? [editline]31st January 2016[/editline] great piece btw dnq
whats the problem with that? [editline]31st January 2016[/editline] great piece btw dnq
They just pop out at me as being painted in a warmer hue than the rest of the image. I think I would make the areas in shadow on the sails slightly more blue and slightly less saturated to just cool it down every so slightly. That's just my opinion.
So how many layers do you guys usually get to before cleaning up while digitally painting? The painting I am currently on is at 38 layers, though I am doing small detail works separately from each other on separate layers to maximize damage control.
I don't think anyone will remember, but just under a year ago I posted this here to see what you guys thought of it. The main bit of advice I remember is the perspective being all wonky, so I decided to give it another go, almost a year later. I think your biggest problem, however, is that you're trying to tackle way too many things at once without any of your fundamentals. You have to have decent knowledge of lighting, color, composition, etc. to make this work. My advice is to do still life studies with paper and pencil, learn how to draw nice forms, how light acts, all that fun stuff.

Exactly, and I also like to have a general process I can show as it helps a lot with critique and if something needs to be changed its simply a matter of going back a certain number of layers. It does bloat up your saves though. Like I will probably post a full process of the painting I am currently almost done with.

This can vary greatly depending on a variety of factors like complexity of the piece, your preference as an artist, etc but if you have too many layers you risk wasting time sorting them out, and increase the possibility of mistakes and confusion. A standard setup is arranging layers spatially - so you might have the sky be on one layer, then the forest background, and a character separate, and another for a foreground element or something. I think of it like I'm arranging the set on a puppet show or something. In other news here's a film study from blade runner i did for class
Yea you're absolutely right, I waste a lot of time in different aspects of my paintings mainly in the sense that I just kind of run with a general concept rather than fleshing out the entire piece. So often times I end up redoing a lot of parts and retracing my steps repeatedly.

I would only make a second one if I'm not completely sure of a major decision I'm about to undertake. It's pretty rare that I ever need the backup layer though so usually it goes in the bin after a few minutes anyway lol 38 layers means you need to see someone
This is the quote that Mako made that I was directly addressing.
I'm quite sure that comment was in reply to something eric95 said, I didn't presume that you weren't interested in the pics you were workings from (and I wasn't saying anything like "put a dragon in") And I think chains and others have made this point already but you're mistaken about tibor nagy's work, from a brief look his pieces very definitely have message, they're really moody (which you perceive already) - that is the meaning/message/feeling/direction/however you want to put it what I was putting to you is that your pieces are very neutral in feeling, they're not moody. It's a good idea to decide what you want to say when you begin an image, what you want to capture that is beyond the oblivious eye of a camera. If you're interested in a certain picture you want to study, TELL us visually in your interpretation what interested you. i don't have feet problems, i actually draw them fairly decently. it's just that whenever i start drawing in drawpile with my friends i just happen to start at a height where the feet get cut off and i can't be bothered to fix it
I did about 400 figure drawings in a week time :v: I'll post my progress soon!

So this is my first digital painting in a looong time, so it was a shaky jump back into the saddle. My main issue is perspective as I kind of just...jumped into it with no planning what so ever which also slowed down the production of this immensely: About 5 hours of work, my particular favorite of the piece is the use of color, which I took an extremely long time on. edit - I noticed a pretty glaring error so here is a quick update: http://puu.sh/mSbdW/2b0d7c8180.png
Should probably just swap the picture homie B rather than linking it. The update looks pretty good.

Been reading dune recently some quick dune art.
Too late now that he's got 6 funnys.
Kinda a bummer but now seeing that transition, I would really wanna see a process video or the steps in between.
