is this the proko paid for course?
is it any good?

Yeah the premium course. Its pretty good. You get loads of extra example clips and the normal vids are a bit longer and go more in depth. You can do everything with just the normal course though. You're not missing that much.
Done. Smoke may have been better though now looking back at it.

Krokodil is russian for crocodile. The incorrectly spelled castle with the k most likely means the poster is Russian.

I'm bad at crits but i think there's too much stuff going on in the picture so it all kinda fights with each other for attention. Lots of details, lots of colors, lots of creatures and objects. Hard for me to say since the piece is very stylized, but try to use areas for the viewer's eyes to rest and focus on detail to your advantage with various contrast (let it be color/value contrast, amount of details). Right now it's mostly flat colors but maybe if you put some lighting in it could unify the color palette of the piece.
I hope this makes sense.

I think the flat colours and reasonably dense detail are intrinsic to the style. I think that contrast & saturation is the way to go to combat this and I'm not sure you could light it without changing the style. I'd just have saturation lower the further from the camera you get to push the croc castle into the distance (making it look bigger too) and to make the bird really pop.

Line weight can also convey atmospheric perspective -- thicker lines in the foreground, thinner lines in the background.

no problem. Yeah keep it super gestural and action-based - I don't see much point in doing more technical-looking figures before you learn anything about how to do that, if that's what you're being instructed to do...
Personally I don't like Proko, I've explained why before. But since you've forked over money you may as well continue with his course lol. But absolutely use Loomis as well. Proko is just watery second-hand Loomis for people who are unaccustomed to reading a book anyway :v
do post more figures.
Personal slights aside, I know that you're not being malicious with your comments - I wasn't trying to start a witch hunt. But many of the people here who aren't regulars don't know you that well (if at all), and they're not going to be able to tell the difference. I'm not an art teacher, but telling people they can't draw (when they obviously do have some knowledge of fundamentals) probably isn't a helpful thing for them to hear. I get that you're busy, but it's the work of 10 seconds to skim a one sentence reply to check whether it's going to come across as supportive or not. Critception, etc
To me it's a very straightforward general bit of advice, he's posted only painting work, never drawings, and it seems like he's trying to do the stuff that his favourite artists are doing or whatever without being able to draw well to begin with, which would be extremely helpful in achieving what he's aiming for at the moment
"draw" is not an insulting substitute for "make art", it just means draw. He should be able to draw well before doing the spaceships and stuff. I consider any sound advice to be be supportive, the delivery doesn't really matter. In fact a bare-knuckled delivery is probably better for the student's prospects of working hard, unless they're really neurotic or something. But I don't think about it too much either way. fuck I don't like spending time having these conversations

Andrew Loomis! I was recommended these a few years ago and I cannot understate how much his guides have help me improve. Honestly, if you have any interest in figure drawing checking out Loomis's work is a must.

Hey guys I don't know if you would count written reviews as "written art" (kind of vague terminology there), but if it doesn't I can edit it and replace it with something else.
This is on my tumblr where I sometimes write shit. http://alliemoop.tumblr.com/
I'm interested in what you guys think, this is my first review so I'm looking for some feedback. A couple of things I've already noticed is a number of typos, and in the future I hope to go into more detail. Like maybe some Matthewmatosis level of detail.
Digimon: Cyber Sleuth Review
Digimon: Cyber Sleuth is far from the best modern jrpg, and perhaps a $60 price-tag is too much for a lot of the mediocrity that the player has to sit through, yet I can’t seem to put the controller down.
Quick Summary of the game: Turn based RPG with Digimons. You play as a “hacker” that uses digimon in a virtual world called EDEN. You contract a disease that turns you into data and you get recruited by a detective that turns you into what she calls a “Cyber Sleuth.”
Many have described the game as Shin Megami Tensei with a Digimon skin, unfortunately the game is not quite that good. It has some of the best elements of Shin Megami Tensei, mainly it’s simple yet addictive combat mechanics. It’s a turn based rpg with an emphasis on exploiting enemy weaknesses and building an arsenal of mons that are equipped to deal with any enemy party. And like Shin Megami Tensei, half of the time you will be spending on this game will be on menus trying to get your favorite monsters. Instead of SMT’s complex and enslaving fusion system, you have a digivolve system that is surprisingly as compelling.
I’ve spent many hours saving, and resetting, trying to explore all of my options in digivolving, and looking up potential pathways for the future. It feels very rewarding to see what was once a blob with eyes eventually turn into a dinosaur with a shotgun. That in itself might be worth your attention.
Not content with taking inspiration from SMT, Cyber Sleuth also takes a page out of Monster Rancher’s recipe book. The digi-farm allows you to train a ridiculous amount of digimon while they aren’t in your party. This is more significant than it sounds, because coupled with the engaging digivolve system, this might be the first mon-game that will actually motivate you into “catching them all.”
With all of this in mind this seems like an ultimate recipe for success for fans of mon-games, and while the potential is there, Cyber Sleuth is held back by it’s numerous amount of flaws.
The mission structure is incredibly simplistic, it falls prey to one of the classic rpg sin of [Go here] - [Kill This] - [Talk to this Person] - [Kill this]. This wouldn’t be much of a hindrance if the dungeons were the least bit interesting but as it is right now they are very uninspired and very blue. As in you’d see less blue if you were drowning in the Pacific Ocean. I wish Cyber Sleuth looked into SMT more closely, and took inspiration from a number of their dungeons.
Speaking of wishing they would copy more from SMT, the narrative could use a lot of work. The first half of the game has no direction and when that direction finally hits in the second half, it does enough to at least keep your attention, but not enough to be anything of note. This isn’t helped by the lackluster dialogue which isn’t helped by the poor translation job.
There are times when the dialogue isn’t only groan inducing, they also don’t even seem to make any sense. As it is right now I can’t tell if the fault should be placed on the rushed translation or the original writing but I imagine it’s some combination of both. To give you an idea of how lazy the writing can be, it often presents you dialogue options and about 90% of the time they all lead to the exact same dialogue boxes, even if you’re playing as different genders. There are times when the characters will imply that you are a lesbian if you picked the girl avatar, and while that could be just a sign of Japan expressing some progressive movement, the fact that most of the game’s dialogue is screams laziness, I think it’s more likely that they just didn’t bother to create more dialogue for the girl avatar. Now this wouldn’t be too much of a problem if they had given us the option to skip dialogue, but for now I hope you like mashing the X button.
The characters are all one-note tropes with very few and far in between sparks of brilliance. They are not terrible but you won’t be longing for their friendship as you would in something like Persona. Which is fine, the characters really only serve to move the story forward. The focus of a digimon game should be the digimons after all.
I find it difficult to criticize the presentation of Cyber Sleuth as they were limited with a small budget, and this was originally for the PS Vita, and with that in mind the graphics are actually better than what you would expect. The models are simplistic but they’re helped with Suzuhito Yasuda’s impeccable character design. You might know him for his work on the SMT: Devil Survivor series, and for doing illustrations for the Durarara!! novels. The backgrounds on the real world are nice and diverse, however as I stated before the ones on EDEN are unapologetically blue.
The music is great for the most part, I wouldn’t listen to any of them outside of the game, but they do the job well. Once again, I wish the claim “SMT but with Digimons,” are true in this aspect.
I compared Cyber Sleuth earlier to Monster Rancher with their implementation of the digi-farm, and while I think it is a good addition overall, I can’t help but be a little frustrated by the fact that it could have been a lot better. I wish the farm was a little more hands on, allowing you to interact with the digimon in more ways. As it is right now you can feed them and… well that’s it. A more hands on approach to the digi-farm could have done wonders for adding personality to the digimon because unless you’ve played other digimon games in the past or you’ve watched some of the anime, you’re not getting much in terms of personality in this game. There’s a brief description of every one in the menu, and they’ll say a line every now and then, but that is pretty much it.
Now I know that I’ve spent the majority of this review talking down on this game, but I want to stress the fact that I really did enjoy this game. The core gameplay of SMT is present and kicking in this game and for fans like me that is more than enough. However, the glaring flaws stick out like a sore thumb and it does hamper the enjoyment I had while playing.
I will say this, there is a lot of potential here. And I mean enough to be a large competitor for modern jrpgs. I fully believe that this can give Persona, Pokemon, and Final Fantasy a run for their money if media vision can effectively utilize their new found budget based on the success of this first game. A lot of the fixes for the flaws I pointed out are very easy to implement, and Cyber Sleuth has shown that it is not afraid to go a step further.
The slightly more mature story in Cyber Sleuth can be huge, and in my opinion the next one should be delve deeper. Maybe even go full on SMT dark, because Digimon can fill the hole that Pokemon flat-out refuses to. They can appeal to the fanbase that watched the series as a kid and has now grown, and the success of Cyber Sleuth has proven that fanbase is huge and dedicated. Overall I’m satisfied with my $60 purchase, not because of the game I played, but because of the potential I see in this series.
But for those that are not interested in said potential I would wait for a price drop. I would say that it is definitely worth at around $45.
Recommendations:
A. I like jrpgs.
B. I like digimon
If both A and B apply, then buy this game.
If only A applies, I would wait for a price drop. Or you might as well just wait for the new SMT.
If only B applies, I would gauge how much I can put up with jrpg gameplay. If you don’t mind it so much, then definitely buy this game, it’s the best digimon game in a while.
If neither applies, why are you reading this review?
Overall score:
[5 average rating scale] 6.5/10 Pretty good, would be better if the price was lower.
I'm sure this is probably asked a lot, but are there any good free/cheap art programs for people who just want to get started without going too deep? I've got Paint.net and gIMP, but as far as I'm aware they're more aimed towards photo-editing rather than drawing, and I'd like to try something specifically made for art.

is the anatomy purposefully skewed? If not, you might want to check your anatomy. Theres a lot of odd stuff going on with the proportions, the size of the hand vs the length of the arms, the proportion of the legs vs the rest of the bod. The angle of the forward foot is pretty extreme and I'm not really sure whats going on with the twisted hand.
On the up though I quite like the line work on the shoes, it looks quite purposeful but still nice and loose, it would be nice to see that translate to the rest of the sketch, especially if its just for warm up. Also, with sketching facial features, try and give them some context, just some quick reference as to where and how they sit on the rest of the head.
