I can only do very static portraits at the moment, but it's mainly just to practice my painting technique and because new things are scary. At least I'm improving quickly. Here is one from last week vs. today (WIP), same amount of time. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/jdxc8e8.png[/thumb] vs. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/XTUYmXp.png[/thumb]
The one on the right has a really nice choice of colours and the rendering on the face is pretty great imo. Im a big fan of detailed areas being framed with simple rendering, like the face is by the hair. [editline]19th February 2016[/editline]
i drew a gal.
Look into line weight distribution and detail distribution. The main problem here is that for something that (im guessing) is supposed to look quite clean, using hatching as a shading method can look quite jarring. Also, can we stop this? More of a personal thing but I find it really disheartening when this happens, its not like your helping that person improve, its just an unnecessary put down. I've been trying to move into more realistic human drawings For the longest time i've been trying to draw in a very cartoonish/anime style, which is fine but now i can't draw faces with any sense of realism, they feel too flat/undetailed they look better as a cartoon where should i start, i feel like i've got body proportions hands and feet down, i'm fine with that but eyes, lips and hair cause me no end of frustration.
I'm in the same boat, I can draw cartoonish people fine but I'm terrible at realism. I try to do figure/gesture drawing using various websites with reference images, but half the time I get thrown off because it gives me weird fetish images as a reference.

Apparently the people on my server just can't appreciate art and have to satisfy their need for power by destroying my picture. So it got griefed, this is as far as I was able to finish it, will copy it into PS and finish it probably (Though kinda pissed I can't finish it in Rust itself):
I've never played rust but I've played plenty of dayz and minecraft. While I have an appreciation for art, there is nothing more hilarious than destroying somebody else's work in a game like that. e.g. Squashing a tent base in a car in dayz or burning down a house in minecraft. I think you should expect everything to be griefed. It's just too damn fun.

I probably wouldn't have destroyed the picture tho (raiding a base and solving a dispute that way is one thing, destroying simple art with a lot of work put in it is just a dickmove.)
is the anatomy purposefully skewed? If not, you might want to check your anatomy. Theres a lot of odd stuff going on with the proportions, the size of the hand vs the length of the arms, the proportion of the legs vs the rest of the bod. The angle of the forward foot is pretty extreme and I'm not really sure whats going on with the twisted hand. On the up though I quite like the line work on the shoes, it looks quite purposeful but still nice and loose, it would be nice to see that translate to the rest of the sketch, especially if its just for warm up. Also, with sketching facial features, try and give them some context, just some quick reference as to where and how they sit on the rest of the head.
I've been getting used to working digitally, but I've picked up an awful habit on zooming in on everything when i work on it and then as a result having a terrible time with sizing everything right and keeping proportion. The pose was really garbage, it's some mishmash of standing with a hand against a hip and walking. Hopefully the proportions here look a little better, although in retrospect the head and neck are a little large. In the future I'm going to try to think about poses a little more. I feel like I've been so flustered with getting coordinated with this tablet that I'm grateful to have managed to make anything at all :v:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/rTCSjOG.jpg[/t] Honestly got nothing on this, just though It'd look cool. Crit away.
That font is a bit gaudy, I'd pick something more low key to match the simplistic style. And Discomelon I don't think it's much of an improvement, the proportions of the torso still look pretty off at a glance.

I was trying for a "Life is Strange" kind of vibe, so I just tried that anyway with just that font anyway. It's probably is the whole structuring of the font style isn't it?

Normally I'd agree, but seeing that this has a hard edged low poly aesthetic that most people equate to the 80s which is pretty much the go to era for colorful video and lens artifacts, I don't think it's out of place in this particular case.

Staying zoomed out will help you create a simple pose/anatomical structure without needing to zoom in for details and then when you zoom in, your proportions won't be off. Like here, the torso looks very short. As if they're missing a few ribs.

Mostly with the faces, as they kind of big and take up a lot of space for the head. That may just be me, though. Also, with your shading- you should work on making it look less... liquid-y, I guess. For this piece and the one above, on the shirt specifically, it looks a lot more like sweat than shadows.
Chromatic aberration is super overused, and it's an issue because it's one of those effects that use without thinking about how it effects the experience people have when they look at your work. It should ONLY be used if you have a clear understanding of what it does to your image, and if you can justify its existence within the universe you've created. The effect makes an image difficult to actually look at given that it messes with the eyes. With any piece of art (but ESPECIALLY design for public consumption), what you're almost always trying to achieve is a sense of unified mood across the painting (and if you're not then you have very good reasons for doing so - juxtaposition to support an idea, etc). The only mood that chromatic aberration creates is one of being uncomfortable, distorted, disjointed, etc. The technical mechanisms behind chromatic aberration come from lenses. If you blur your eyes and hold a finger up to a light source, you'll see (due to diffraction plus the lenses in your eyes) a slight blue/green tint on one side of your finger, and a slight red tint on the other. But it's not something anybody encounters in their day to day viewing of the world. It's only noticeable when (and is only associated with) looking through a lensed device (cameras, telescopes, etc), and often only when they're pushed a little too far or when they're defective. Association is important. We associate anamorphic lens flares with science fiction movies - you probably wouldn't see it in a fantasy film or nature documentary. Because contemporary cinematic language says that it belongs in science fiction. And so when people see it, they think 'sci fi'. The same is true with chromatic aberration. It's an effect that is associated with distortion, defection, and, increasingly, science fiction. So if you have a peaceful forest scene but want to hint at a mechanical/sci-fi evil lurking around, then it's appropriate. If you have a scene that looks into a nuclear reactor and you want to highlight that it's hazardous, it's appropriate. But if you're doing a nice, pretty scene that's supposed to be about the sanctity of nature, the calm of a foggy morning, the nuclear reactor that creates cleanish, abundant power, etc, then it's going to work against you in the worst way possible. [editline]20th February 2016[/editline] Edit: I guess it also does sort of associate with old-school monitors, but I think it's a technical fault that gave people literal headaches back in the day, and they'd probably rather not look at something that reminds them of that.
[t]http://oi66.tinypic.com/1zo7q1e.jpg[/t] thumb'd for large nude image I have to use a shitty public library scanner for this and i'm using A3 paper so please excuse the line where i manually joined the two images up. But anyway, this is one of my recent sketches from last December, what do you think? any C&C you can give it?
did you draw it from imagination or reference? i only ask because the muscles are somewhat innacurate, especially in the legs. i think we'd be able to see at least a bit of his other shoulder from this angle too. definitely also study the abdomen and pectoral muscles, as you have them shaped weirdly. on the plus side, the head looks great, as does the sword!

I've never had the chance to use models or anything (except for dudes posing in magazines) so for most stuff i'm just guessing how the muscles are grouped. I'm going to try and upload some more
why? There's plenty of stuff online. You're not doing yourself any favors by taking a guess
I don't have a computer, or smart phone. or internet access I'm using a public computer right now.
I don't have a computer, or smart phone. or internet access I'm using a public computer right now.
ah, fair enough. Still, i would highly suggest find some way to get references.
So i've been listing to BrendanielReads narrative of the "Garfield Effect" fanfic and it gave me a lot of inspiration
snip I regret everything
I don't have a computer, or smart phone. or internet access I'm using a public computer right now.
Head to the store or the library to take a look at some Men's Fitness magazines. Those can usually have some good poses and references in them.
