This actually reminded me a lot of "Public and Private Life of Animals", by J. Thomson. [t]http://40.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m40lddYcar1qac76ro1_1280.jpg[/t] [t]http://40.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mdpmxg4PLp1qac76ro1_1280.jpg[/t] The similarities of animal drawing could be really a cultural aspect that led to a rising anthropomorphism in europe by the XIX century. This is the whole book, if anyone is interested in.
I just lurk here and this is totally tangential but I actually had a lecture earlier today which might be relevant to your theory. Before the ~mid 1800s, people generally viewed life as hierarchical, with humans being the most "superior" life form and others ranking below them. Humans were considered distinct from animals. In 1838, there was an orangutan at a London zoo named Jenny who was trained to engage in human behaviors like drinking tea from a teacup. Darwin met her and wrote about her, comparing her behavior to that of his own children. Scientists started recognizing the intellectual abilities of animals during this time. During the mid 1800s, after Wallace/Darwin's books on natural selection were published, people also started recognizing that concepts like adaptation could also be applied to human psychology and began to recognize the similarities between humans and other animals. It's possible anthropomorphized art is a reflection of that scientific trend of training animals to engage in more "human" behaviors (operant conditioning was developed in the late 1800s) as well as recognizing the psychological similarities between humans and animals.
and here are some more drawings i did using some of the instructions from the book. any C&C is helpful
I feel like you're not defining jaws and chins enough, all the heads seem pretty round. It feels almost like you're just adding a bit of a tip to a circle rather than the whole jaw deal. I remember I used to have a big issue with that... haven't read the book so I don't know how they're break down heads for you. It feels more natural on your female or young illustrations, but on the men it really sticks out.
Welcome to Facepunch! For posting pics, you need to do right-click>copy image location for the right URL.
thanks. I was having trouble with that.
Right now he's using Instagram for his artwork, but I was wondering if any of you guys had any suggestions for him on how to go about setting up commissions and the like(mainly websites and such). At the moment he's been mostly doing DnD event recording for people, and is usually charging $20 for his black and white sketches.
Still looking for some advice regarding this. I really would love to help this guy get some more exposure! Also megadrive, that reminds me a fuckton of Alice in Wonderland with a combination of Southwest Native American folklore. Pretty kickass!

What about gives the southwest folklore to you? Also From experience the best way to get some exposure is to do art jams and some contests here and their. Also never forget to tag your art so it shows up in searches on where you post it and such. Speedpaints are also something that helps too, I need to do more of those myself.
Ah, alright. I'll make sure to send that to him. Also regarding southwest folklore, it reminds me a lot of some of the creatures mentioned by freaked out campers and stuff. Ya' know, stuff like people who say they were camping in the area around Area 51, and when they ask natives who happen to turn out to be native americans, they usually just call them skinwalkers and the like.

Looks like a very conflicted Amish person.

The deep blue looks unfitting to me, considering how light everything is. It'd look much better with a more pale color.
The deep blue looks unfitting to me, considering how light everything is. It'd look much better with a more pale color.
I agree, something like a paler blue or a sort of orangey-tan color would fit as well.
Or if you do go with that shade of 'eyemurder blue', it would probably cast a similar light on the objects in the scene as well since it's so goddamned bright.
Does 3D stuff go in here? I didn't see a "post shit you're making" thread in the Modeling subforum.
Does 3D stuff go in here? I didn't see a "post shit you're making" thread in the Modeling subforum.
3D art has its own thread, but people sometimes post their 3D works here too.
I'm sure you guys missed my shitty grayscale soldiers
thats a collector wish i could paint tbh
Start?
wish i could paint tbh
Gonna come out of lurking this thread for this and tell you to focus on potential, not limits. In other news, my painting class is finally going to start on live models. I'm pretty excited, I need this
Right now I'm trying to challenge myself to draw things I would otherwise not by drawing a short comic of sorts(or just do some environment studies) and I'm going to go on a small field trip around the city and some shops to capture the feel of locations. Is there anything I should keep in mind or do during my trip that could help me when I try to emulate these locations in my drawings?
[t]http://pre13.deviantart.net/86e9/th/pre/i/2016/060/c/c/image_jpg_by_quinn_loneheart-d9tjmz3.jpg[/t] well that seems better? \/:v:\/
[t]http://pre13.deviantart.net/86e9/th/pre/i/2016/060/c/c/image_jpg_by_quinn_loneheart-d9tjmz3.jpg[/t] well that seems better? \/:v:\/
did you use a reference for this? I apologize if you've already answered this question. Foreshortening is pretty tricky, so I'd say the one thing you need to pay most attention to is the measurements of the figure! [editline]29th February 2016[/editline] also, I would suggest putting more time into the body of the figure, it looks like you paid a lot of attention to the face, which looks pretty good, but the body and clothes of the figure don't seem to match up in amount of effort or time.
Dumping some of the fun stuff I've been working for school and otherwise. Transformer (Vespa) Pretty sure I've shared WIP versions of these but I've finished them [vid]http://i.imgur.com/HYz9TAz.webm[/vid] Mercury capsule for texture painting class [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/4qCjjrr.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/O240P8q.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/1FXmpCO.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/WMH8QEh.jpg[/img_thumb] WIP - C&C please!
