I've been there before and it does look like it, but it was actually a lake I went past when travelling from Les Arcs to Geneva Airport called Lake Annecy
Oh shit, looks really nice.
First drawing done with a mouse, I pulled some lineart on it after I was done with it.
Alright, don't ever suffer through using a mouse. Shit's just needlessly hard. Sure there are artists who use a mouse, even our own resident GastricTank used to use a mouse but he chucked that nonsense as soon as he could. If you wanna jump straight into digital, you could grab a cheap little Wacom tablet and work on it from there, or if you can't afford it or just don't want to make that commitment yet, go out and grab a big ass stack of printer paper (or a sketchbook) and some Col-Erase Blue or Carmine Red pencils, your preference on color really. It's a really waxy pencil, so it comes out really light and you can easily draw over it with a pen or a darker pencil if you want to finish something. So just grab these and draw every day. Just do it man. And make sure you enjoy it, if you don't enjoy it, you won't stick with it.
Since there was no steam sale I made this:
some sketches
See now that's a point I can get behind. On an unrelated note, I'd like to ask you guys for an opinion. I'm at a stage where my eye for measurement and the like is still shit but I'm trying to improve. I often hit a point in a painting where I'm kinda far along and I realize I've messed up in some of the basic stages of the painting. So I fall into a rut of fixing things, and fixing one thing messes up another. Should I keep trying to fix it? Or just finish it and move on?
I think you should do a series of drawings wherein you strive for a high level of accuracy and a strictly methodical process - trying to finish problem paintings probably will not really help your measuring/groundwork to improve, so it'd be a good idea to focus on just those weaker aspects. arrange some objects and try to really nail the proportions and other relationships between them. and use traditional media even though it's painful haha.. [editline]28th March 2016[/editline]
I touched up this thing from about a month ago, to maybe include it in a portfolio. Thoughts?
It's pretty nice. Maybe try filling the van and bg with some kind of colour - at the moment it still feels very sketchy because of all the white, I think it would help pull it together as a designed-looking image if you added colour fills. Also the handwritten type is a little bit lacking imo - you've done a nice job of it but because of the tapering and roughness and faded edges here and there it's identifiable as something you've written with your stylus rather than properly done lettering. So that's probably an Illustrator job that needs doing. Apart from that just some nitpicky things, the roof is a little bit confusing but not a dealbreaker and those few careless lines at the bottom of the frame could be erased. Oh and remove the feb 2016 lol you don't really want that to be part of your piece do you... If you address that stuff you'll have a really strong image. One thing, you might want to look at some manga for an idea of how you might revamp the speed lines below the van - since you've got something that's really design-driven it might unify the piece more to eliminate the quickly-drawn-looking lines and replace them with something more ruled/consistent, and maybe more of them with more black in the mix to really make use of the effect. http://i.imgur.com/KfnAvcg.png it would be easy to find examples of radial ones too.
I sketched an Asura. Anyone got tips on doing super clean lineart? [t]http://i.imgur.com/btrvHWM.jpg[/t]
have really been lacking in art lately, I've been trying to work more on my programming and school studies and various other things sorry if my artistic vision is a bit rusty right now, this was mostly just for relaxing
I sketched an Asura. Anyone got tips on doing super clean lineart? [t]http://i.imgur.com/btrvHWM.jpg[/t]
Theres really no secret to making really clean lineart besides just making really clean lineart, I just use full opacity full hardness if I want to make something with really slick lines.
WIP abomination.
First time trying to draw anything in about 9 years, please go easy on me, but I'm looking for some pointers. I want to design a character for a game idea I've been sitting on for a long time, but I haven't started trying to visualize the basics of it until now. This is my first sketch of the main character, I was shooting for someone around 12-13, but I think he looks a little bit older than that. Game is set to be stylized/fantasy setting, not quite anime/manga but not shooting for photo-realism either, kind of a general, "toon," style. [t]http://i.imgur.com/5J371do.jpg[/t]

[t]http://i.imgur.com/5J371do.jpg[/t]
not bad! here's my personal advice: 1, draw the whole body or just do a bust/head, there's not much point or interest at cutting someone off at the knees 2, you'll want to study things like proportion and anatomy. reference always helps! 3, he looks older than 13 because his body looks to be ~7 heads tall if I'm imagining his legs right, which is the proportions of a statuesque man. try changing his relative head size 4, I'm getting a general adventurer vibe from him, which is good, but I think you could overall put more thought into his clothes. right now he's giving me a high-schooler-cosplaying-as-Sonic Boom era Sonic vibe. what time period does he come from? what climate? keep it up! I hope I helped
I've been procrastinating practicing with my tablet, so I worked on taking this girl from a doodle to a semi-decent state of completion [t]http://i.imgur.com/VnAzWUP.png[/t] I'm still getting used to working digitally (using SAI right now, though I've got Krita on my machine as well), anyone have advice on working with coloring digitally? I'm still less comfortable with that than my linears as of now.

for a project
[DEL]Spent an hour and 30something layers making this concept piece for my next tattoo.[/DEL] [t]http://i.imgur.com/uzUaEbn.jpg[/t] [DEL]I feel like I'm missing some characters though, I wanna put King Worm right behind Lady Rainicorn/Timelord guy where their two circle shapes form kind of a butt, over the Ancient Psychic Tandem War Elephant's torso. Who/what else should I add?[/DEL] Wrong thread
creative placement at least if you want critique I think the gumball machine head dude has too much space to himself and breaks up the nice chaos of the arrangement. Could probably use a character covering up a good portion of the left side of him, so whatever's revealed of his head somewhat mirrors lady rainicorn's shape
some sketches
Totally getting better, mate.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/coZjfwB.png[/t] it's a prelim sketch any tutorials on painting would be appreciated :s
So uh, painting is hard. Especially since I've never really done it before. Professor wanted the class to make self-portraits and then this happened [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/220816726/selfportrait.jpg[/t] After doing three self-portraits in a row in drawing class, I was tired of it so I made a face :v: I wasted so much time and paint trying to get the skin tones right and they're still wrong. Also, how the hell do you work with acrylics for long periods of time? They just dry out and I can't blend them at all. The face kinda just sums up how I feel about the piece. I could work on it more, but it's due tomorrow and I really don't have the drive to work on this anymore bleh [editline]edit[/editline] Oh god the nostril on the right shit
More practice with Krita, SAI, and my tablet: [t]http://i.imgur.com/V4OuoqJ.png[/t] a sort of robo-P.I., meant really as a way to practice some things like shading and such. Not by any means spectacular, but I feel better about it than some of my older stuff.
would love to hear some feedback/critique for my latest draft of an animatic for our grad film. we've been working on preproduction this term, and we're finishing up a cleaner version before we fully head on to production next term! it's basically a story of a student who must brave the perils of public transportation. (and also a satirical commentary on the horrible state of commuting in the Philippines) thanks so much in advance!
Any Aussies here that own a drawing tablet? Where did you get yours? Wondering if there's a better place than just using Amazon.
Any Aussies here that own a drawing tablet? Where did you get yours? Wondering if there's a better place than just using Amazon.
I own a Wacom Intuos. Bought it from Officeworks for a decent price. You can get better tablets but they will cost a few hundred dollars.
I own a Wacom Intuos. Bought it from Officeworks for a decent price. [editline]1st April 2016[/editline] Seems like Officeworks only stocks Wacom products
wacom is usually what you'd find in stores in a lot of places, they're commercial enough if you (or anyone else reading this) are looking for other cheap tablet options, you might also want to check out monoprice brand tablets

Going to be making this in 3D, trying to take a painterly approach to UE4, it will be more fleshed out with foliage I'm thinking, but this is the basic concept.
