Its hard to even focus on making better art when nobody around where i live gives a shit if i make better art, or doesnt even know what the fuck concept art is, and even your mother doesnt give a shit either... :( I try my best to study and focus, but the fucking procrastination and barely anybody around me giving me critiques or not caring just makes it impossible, christ i wish i was at college right now, thank god im a senior. But Jesus Christ the wait is agonizing.
I'm pretty sure there's a lot of people in this thread (and in the whole world) in the same boat as you, and the only ones who are going to win are the people that work hard and don't give up regardless. People irl around you can't really help with critique if they don't know anything about the subject of drawing or painting (so you can't really blame them) and why would you depend on other people's support if your key goal is to improve? It's something you need the most and you're the only one who can do something about it. Step out of your comfort zone, read books, practice form, perspective, lighting, composition, materials - all of these things are done easily through studies of real life objects as long as you know what you want to study. Then apply the things you've learned on your own piece and ask for critique. If it looks like something you've spent a long time on and not 10-20 minutes then someone will definetly say what's on their mind about your piece. [editline]11th April 2016[/editline] It's really easy to fall into the blame game of this and that but in say 5 years the only one to blame for not improving is yourself. It's easy to say "I try my hardest" and not realize that you're still not trying hard enough. If you really want something - you'll get there. [editline]11th April 2016[/editline] PS - I would say removing the creative subforum really damaged the discussion around, this thread gets a lot of content in various media - text, non-digital and digital painting, videos, animations - and there's not enough people who can sacrifice enough time for critique or have sufficient knowledge about something because they might be doing something completely different.

procrastination is your own problem, even if you have little motivation, set aside time every day. Even if it's 30 minutes. That's better than 0.
procrastination is your own problem, even if you have little motivation, set aside time every day. Even if it's 30 minutes. That's better than 0.
This has been working for me I have 0 motivation to make art, even though I know it's what makes me feel fulfilled So I gave myself an after-work routine of 20 mins writing, 20 mins figure studies, 20 mins of whatever else I feel like doing creatively And it works - because it's not like 'oh I have to do 2 hours of this now'. It's broken down into small chunks, so the anti-motivation bit of me that has issues with committing a large chunk of time to something doesn't get scared away. And I don't have to take it too seriously - I can put some music on and just have fun with it. And it means I'm progressing infinitely more than I was before - because before it was 0 minutes a day doing anything creative.

So I have this rocker-bassinet thing for my daughter, and I had her in it earlier while I was sitting at my desk, but every time I looked over to see if she was asleep, she was just about there but then would notice me looking at her and would wake up, so I took my webcam and pointed it at her so that I could just check my screen and not wake her up. The way it was angled down and "watching" her made me think of a character that serves as kind of a "caretaker" type thing, so I decided to try and sketch it out in photoshop. I don't typically draw (been trying to more lately) so it's not very good, but it's enough for me to feel a little proud of. [t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cf0GXb_UYAEnVu7.jpg[/t]

Wasn't too sure if I should post this here or the photography thread, but this so heavily edited so Wish I could post more, but one photo per person I guess! [img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/RTC7C0.jpg[/img_thumb] cheers
i actually made something that isnt an sfm picture with photoshop guys!!! [t]http://i.imgur.com/TIOQggw.png[/t]
Looks pretty good. Your foreground trees are too low res though, they are all pixelated and blurry when viewing the image full size.
Throwing in a self-portrait cummin yur way!! I'm looking to buy a good tablet. I used to have an old Intuos GD but it broke down.. Should I stick with Wacom their tablets or are there any better alternatives atm? Much appreciated
I drew a spaceship for my friend. Originally intended to be a quickie, so sadly I didn't do proper construction and perspective. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/hQRAuX1.jpg[/img_thumb] And progress pics for your amusement.
I'm looking to buy a good tablet. I used to have an old Intuos GD but it broke down.. Should I stick with Wacom their tablets or are there any better alternatives atm? Much appreciated
Tbh I wouldn't buy a wacom again, I feel like I'm being ripped off. I have an Intuos 5 Medium Pro, my friend has a Huion H610 Pro. The Huion (£64) is £176 cheaper than the Wacom (£240) and is more or less the same product from what I can see. My friend has no complaints about it.
I've been using a wacom bamboo pen since 2012, from what I've read it's considered shit but I'm happy with it, it gets the job done. Is there any good reason to consider getting a more expensive tablet other than it having more buttons and being bigger? Not that I have the money for one anyway, but if it comes to it, how good can a tablet actually get? Like how big can the difference between an affordable/budget tablet and something fancy be?
I have an Intuos pro 5 medium - Tbh I barely use the buttons and the eraser end is only a nice to have. I'm not sure I would notice if I had 1024 instead of 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity and I would be sceptical that anybody can. The only thing is that it's worth having a medium sized one because the small ones are just too small IMO. I wouldn't want a large because that's a bit too big but the medium is perfect size. So I honestly wouldn't recommend the Intuos pro line to anybody, even professionals. I'd get a huion for 1/4 of the price, or if you must have a wacom then just get the standard medium one (still overpriced)

It looks like the Huion is a bit smaller but ehh, I guess that's the price difference. Thanks a lot for the reply tho!
First shot at making pixel art, thought it turned out pretty good. Slow process, manually doing each square but it was fun.
You get this in here too

today marks the 1 week anniversary of me trying to pick up drawing and i finally drew a thing im not completely ashamed of its obviously not complete but i am happy i managed to draw something human shaped
[T]http://i.imgur.com/BLFMBP5.png[/T] I tried to make an estus flask in celebration of ds3's release
all off-brand tablets have the most horrible drivers
this is true for the most part but at least i don't randomly lose pen pressure when i'm using my monoprice off brand tablets are cost effective and really, you won't notice that much of a difference.
all off-brand tablets have the most horrible drivers
My experience with Wacom drivers haven't been pleasant either. I still think they are great tablets, albeit bit pricy. Monopen's a good brand IIRC. Anyway, sketches.
I can't decide if I want to put something under the pylons or not.
Last oil painting for my art school portfolio. [t]http://i.imgur.com/KnMziBD.jpg[/t] I really want to add another piece to the portfolio, but I'm fresh out of ideas and it's driving me nuts.
Found something I did quite awhile ago so I decided to quickly redraw it to see how I fare now [t]http://i.imgur.com/NpRH3Wd.jpg[/t] One thing that's kind of eye opening is that when you upload your drawing and put it side by side to the reference it's really obvious what you did wrong
If you're a beginner artist, I think it would be better to start off using real life references rather than ones from clearly stylized media so that you would have a better grasp on how visuals in reality work. Once you get to the point where you're skilled enough with drawing realistically and well familiar with the rules of nature, that would be a good time to start breaking those rules and do some sweet stylized shit. [editline]16th April 2016[/editline] I would imagine that's how whoever drew that one frame of animation in your reference got to that point in skill.
so i tried to paint a little homage to dark souls 3 today [t]http://i.imgur.com/V0dlx8o.jpg[/t] it's 1920x1080 although imgur compression kind of made it not as nice
