Early happy Chinese new year everyone!
It's the year of sheep.
When you do reflections you have to think about where the point of view is and where the object or light or w/e that is being reflected is, I feel like the reflection being all of the same thing it wouldn't appear on all sides of the object unless there were 3 different things that were the same in 3 different places to all reflect off the angled surface at the viewer.
Think of a satellite dish, the idea of that shape is that everything that hits it would be reflected into the part that sticks out to recieve the signals, but that is a concave shape. What you have is a cube, so in order for the point of view (imagine as a receiver thing on a satellite dish) to see a reflection on all 3 sides of the cube, there would have to be an object or light at a position on each side in order to have each side reflect something that the viewer can see.
Although with pixel art there is a lot of artistic liberty, but I still think it may look a bit better if at least 1 side didn't reflect anything.
also none of this is taking into account refraction from light passing through the surface since it is ice, fuck if I know how to describe that.
so something like this perhaps?
That looks better than all 3 sides to me.
emailled noah bradley with a couple of questions because i was interested in his work and my tutors recommended me to

What did he do that you didn't? What did you do that he didn't?
Thanks for the advice, I'm comparing my stuff to his now after reading this and it actually does seem like a bit of a mess so there's definitely room for improvement with my future work.
More anime shit
It's Sensei-sensei from Senpai Club as a high school student
Other than this issue, is Mischief good and would you guys recommend buying it? I'm downloading the trial right now to check it out but am interested in what you guys think.
I can't afford PS so I use Krita, which is alright I guess but I'm open to paying $25 for something that's really good.
No idea how it compares to Krita but IMO mischief is amazing for sketching and not bad for linework & "basic" colouring but I wouldnt like to use it for proper paintings. Even something like SAI or maybe Manga Studio would be better for that

that's weird. the bricks in the wall are top lit so make the cube top lit as well. You could just leave the two side faces as they are and make the top face nice and bright, highlights on ice will be white and pretty dazzling. also they'll appear in crazy formations due to the transparency but since you have what looks like a neatly cut cube you can get away with lighting it like an opaque material
what school do you attend?
LCAD's game art program
LCAD's game art program
Dang
Sometimes I really wish I'd gone that route rather than doing what ended up being Visual Arts degree where the last two-and-a-bit years were pretty much self directed do-what-you-want.
Some forced concept-art design tasks would have made a hell of a difference for me

That's ok. Sometimes I really wish I'd attended any art school rather than studying electronics for 5 years just to work as a programmer.

From all of the artwork of yours I've seen it doesn't look like it's held you back much tbh.

The walls are left-bottom lit actually. So they're dark on the top and right. It's not exactly the same because my cube is 'rotated' 45 degrees compared to everything else in the game.
Here's the final result:

well yeah, he apparently doesn't mind being asked questions, but he does mind being asked questions with the intent to use it in an essay. it is weird, since i'm used to either just being replied to or not replied to whatsoever. didn't expect to piss him off to the extent that he'd start arguing on fb
i should have just not told him i went to university in the UK and asked the questions

a good art school will wreck anyone's confidence severely...
a good art school will wreck anyone's confidence severely...
Not if your school teaches you how to take criticism well
it teaches both really. it teaches not to not value your art too highly and to keep going even if you get discouraging critique.
the hardest thing I think is to be among really skilled artists and see where the industry standard lies, and knowing that ones own art isn't near that.
teachers will encourage you, they have to. But they will encourage anyone, even if they think the student won't make it.
Half of being an artist is wishing you were other artists anyway

If you've got problems, solve 'em
(I'm still getting the hang of being looser with my drawings, and trying to make them look finished while still having that free-flowing appeal... I hope it looks okay)
Haven't done any girl by the beach for awhile, haha.

Looks good but I think there's a bit too much contrast on the teeth. I think if you simplify them a bit and bring focus onto the eyes/nose it'll be a bit more appealing. I like the colours and composition though, nice work mate

Hmm I never really got a significant sense of discouragement from seeing other people's work. Like occasionally I'll see somebody else's work and compare it to my own recent stuff and go 'eck' but at the end of the day it inspires me to do better, and inspiring people is why I want to make art so it all comes around
It's not about that, it's the fact that art students have to get a job when they graduate, if not, no money!
If you're not at the industry standard by the time you get out of school, you're fucked.
or in my case, I have to go back to Norway.

The clock is ticking constantly for us. If art was still a hobby for me there would be no reason for me to worry.
