Whooops I thought you were talking about composition and form definition for some reason my bad
I Tried my hardest, I did this ages ago but then I lost track of the thread [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/gbIhF/0c7ead9614.png[/img_thumb] Reference [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/gbIjp/aae9035e76.jpg[/img_thumb] I wonder if anyone remembers the first photostudy I posted :v: [editline]25th February 2015[/editline] Oh also what would be a proper size for a canvas? in general I mean, I mostly don't want stuff to be xbox huge or ant size small.
I've been spending a lot of time working on my portraits recently. Looking at that picture I can see some problems with the overall structure of the head & face which is the biggest issue with it. Also because her head doesn't seem to be built around a 3D form in your painting it looks sort of flat. It looks like you've tried to draw exactly what you see which is a really good place to start (although you have changed the angle she is facing and felt the need to differentiate features with shading differences that do not exist in the reference e.g. on our left side of the nose & between the neck and the bottom of the jaw), but I would focus more on the actual form of the head and face. MakoSkyDub did a really helpful post to help with the issues I was having with portraits to show his process - http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?p=47098625#post47098625 And if you haven't studied it, I recommend "Drawing the Head and Hands" by Andrew Loomis, since the head form is basically the entire subject of the book. These crits have basically come from what I've heard from others about my own portraits and learned about them over the past couple of weeks, so I'm in no way a pro at portraits but hopefully it's helpful.
Oh my god everyone is still here I thought all the subforums and threads and all my art heroes had just been murderfied by garry or something <3 <3 <3
They've just released a major version of Krita btw, tons of new features. https://krita.org/krita-2-9-the-kickstarter-release/ I've been using Krita for some time, looking forward to checking it out.
I make shitty glitch art because I am unoriginal and terrible at everything else. Third attempt with drawing with pen. Tried to draw a cape and metal armor, never drew cloth before, not sure how it turned out. Any criticism please, newbie with drawing. Does anybody know where I can get good drawing brushes for Photoshop?

I can't even draw stickmen right. Shouldn't the cloth between the legs also be affected by the wind that is affecting the cape?
I don't think the inside of the cape should be so dark, and the red cross really stands out as colored on because it doesn't conform with the shape of the armor and is way sharper than anything else.
I quite like the darkness of the inside of the cape. It's a break from traditional costume design (which would be dark on the outside with brighter inner lining) and the lack of translucency suggests a heavier fabric, which is appropriate given the cold-ass background

how many of you are trying to become iillustrators? are any of you trying to become fine artists?
I might be wrong but it looks like you've taken existing images of a soldier and Garrus, shopped them together and then drawn metal plates & the cape in over the top of that? I mean there's nothing wrong with that for the sake of concept art but if it were me I'd probably say I didn't draw the whole thing.
in terms of learning to draw I'd say there's several things wrong with that
I mean there's nothing wrong with that for the sake of concept art but if it were me I'd probably say I didn't draw the whole thing.

Tried to draw a cape and metal armor

"Tried to draw a cape and metal armor"
Yeah? And in this piece I posted a couple of pages back I "tried to draw trees" [t]http://41.media.tumblr.com/567a01cf18fb72e01b956682a684deeb/tumblr_nk6qopWZxr1uoog4zo1_1280.png[/t] Do you think that means that I didn't draw the snow, sky, bushes etc?
idk i think it was pretty clear that meant it in a "i drew the cape and armor on top of an existing image" way, but either way he didn't claim to have drawn the whole thing
I think that you drew the whole thing is the default assumption made unless otherwise specified in this thread. Whatever, it doesn't matter at the end of the day whether you say if you've traced / drawn over stuff, if you're learning it's only going to stop you from getting good advice. I'm still going to point it out if I see it.
is that an image of garrus as an english templar knight with a sniper rifle?
is that an image of garrus as an english templar knight with a sniper rifle?
technically it would be a DMR because it's just an assault rifle with a long barrel. it hasn't even got a scope.
Crazy Knife probably posted a painted-over GMOD image with some details changed. Braincollectors ACR is clearly recognizable with just a stock and barrel painted on, so I'd assume this was mostly put together in GMOD with little actual photoshop done beforehand, maybe some pp. Doesn't crazy knife post in the GMOD section often?
