Crazy Knife probably posted a painted-over GMOD image with some details changed. Braincollectors ACR is clearly recognizable with just a stock and barrel painted on, so I'd assume this was mostly put together in GMOD with little actual photoshop done beforehand, maybe some pp. Doesn't crazy knife post in the GMOD section often?
Exactly, the background is a former blurred thing I drew on the last page. The head of the turrian and the gun were given to me by NinjaNub, a very good model porter. I combined these two models at first on a map called gm_black, then I took a screenshot and started painting. I also used a metal texture I downloaded off the internet for the chest piece, those are the only things I used externally, the rest was done in photoshop using a drawing pad I recently purchased so I could practice drawing things as realistically as possible.

By the way, sorry if you guys got the wrong idea that I was somehow deceiving anyone. I was watching tutorials yesterday about how to draw stuff like this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGVNDHVAgxM and he kept using all kinds of small photoshop snippets to build an image. I thought of doing the same thing only using snippets from my garry's mod pics.
The main difference is that's generally referred to as concept art more than actual paintings. That sort of art is really more of a quick visualization for a concept or idea to communicate to others, rather than as a full on 'painting' made as an art piece, if you catch my drift. If you want to grow as an artist, the more work you make yourself do, the better. Taking shortcuts is okay if you're really pressed to get the result, but if you want to develop your skills you need to focus on the process and putting in the work.
The most important thing for me is that if you used a few elements here and there, fine, but if you just completely painted over something without mentioning it, especially when looking for critique, it's more problematic.

Didn't someone on this forum make that rocket poster with the ice cream van as the first one? Pretty sure I just saw it on the Daily Mail.

Some sort of modern but tribal concepts, just silhouettes because I need to practice rendering and such.

How does one glitch using audacity?
The only glitch method I got working was just an online tool. The notepad editing stuff either did nothing or made the image unreadable..

From my understanding, you convert the image to a raw file, then open it in audacity and use effects like phasers, echo, etc. Then open it back as an image in photoshop.

I just did one using the wordpad effect:

Use Photoshop to save an image as a .raw file, and note down the original dimensions. I usually go with non-interleaved .raw files, as then each colour channel gets its own different effect when using the wordpad effect.
Import the .raw file into Audacity using U-Law, Big-endian and 1 channel. Then, select a part of the image (don't select it all as the Photoshop header is at the start of the file and fucking that up breaks the image).
Then, go nuts with effects. To save it, go to File > Export Audio, select Other uncompressed files, click the Options button and change the header to RAW and encoding to U-Law. Then save it, re-open it in Photoshop, correct the resolution if required, input the amount of colour channels and whether or not it is interleaved (I go with 3 channels and non-interleaved), and you should be presented with a databent image.
As for the wordpad effect, save it as a .raw with the same settings, open it in wordpad, save it, and reopen it in Photoshop. It does have a chance to break the file completely, because wordpad's reformatting is highly destructive. If it does work, the effects are really cool.
Thanks for the guide! Gonna give this a go in the morning.

I tried out an idea I had in Audacity - rather than using a mono track, I used a stereo track, and I cut and pasted to jumble them around.
I was also listening to John Carpenter's Lost Themes while databending a picture of John Carpenter.

For some reason it bothers me that the outlines on skin are thicker than the rest. And the ring somehow. But that might be just me. :)
I did a lot of futzing around with line weights (both in general and varying the width in a single shape), mostly just eyeballing to see what looked good.
Beep boop I'm not dead.. yet.

I feel like with such a saturated blue sky, some of those shadows should be bluer?
Mmm, you're right. I mixed in a lot of blue for the buildings in the background but I agree not enough for the palm and mountain shadows. Thanks

I think maybe the sky needs some work? Defiantly the brushwork on the clouds isnt as nice as the ground brushwork.

Justice. I wanted to use the wordpad effect for the Cross album art, but it crashed after leaving it open, formatting the .raw all night and all day. I guess it couldn't handle the stress. [sp]I'm so sorry.[/sp]
I think maybe the sky needs some work? Defiantly the brushwork on the clouds isnt as nice as the ground brushwork.
I agree, I have real trouble with drawing clouds without making them look like heavy solid objects, so I end up using a textured brush and making something mediocre. It's definitely something I need to figure out and would welcome anybody's advice on that. Tomorrow I'll do some clouds with hard round and hopefully someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong with them.
