I agree, I have real trouble with drawing clouds without making them look like heavy solid objects, so I end up using a textured brush and making something mediocre. It's definitely something I need to figure out and would welcome anybody's advice on that. Tomorrow I'll do some clouds with hard round and hopefully someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong with them.
Drawing contours is really helpful for limbs in perspective.

I love how his hair creates a bit of a nest on his head. Overall I like the design but it does seem kind of Life of Pi-ey. Love the expressions though; I'm always envious of your ability to draw with appeal.
Anyway, here's some more photo study homework

a few quick ones I did over the weekend:

Left arm is wonky. This was a fun exercise; I collect minifigs so I'll probably do more of these. I thought about making her skin yellow but it looked too weird.

Turns out the whole album is pretty funky and not just that one song. The pose isn't great but I had fun messing around in Photoshop trying to give it that old paper & four-color printing effect.
[t]http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2015/060/4/7/hicks_by_bleu_ninja-d8k2znj.jpg[/t]
Actually drew this before I heard the news about Biehn being contacted, but drew it based on a combination of that concept art and where Hicks was actually bandaged. Thought about inking it (probably something like the Jonah Hex I drew) but decided to stick with pencils.

Oh god, these are nauseating, but amazing. What's the deal with that line in the mirror though?
Irredeemable laziness on my part, though I kinda think it looks a little interesting in hindsight.
Working on another picture with similar style to my last one.

I'm actually kind of happier with this earlier version.

Partly because of the values of the cliffs behind the character, partly because I feel like the simpler values in the foreground sell the depth better, and partly for a reason I can't quite pin down. Am I right in that?
Egh, I tried some changes to values but I dunno.

Image on the right is the original
I think it's to do with the cliff face below the door. If the entrance has that much detail then the face below should more detail right? Right now it reads a bit like a water reflection with those broad strokes. Just my two cents
The further things get from the view point the lighter they get, so why not try and make the area closest to the camera a fair bit darker?
[editline]6th March 2015[/editline]
Like if you look at the earlier version the rock with the flag thing where the guy is now in the new version is pretty dark, make the rocks in the corner be dark like that, maybe a little darker even, sort of like a vignette except just in that corner? Can't really say if it will work unless I see it, but I think it might.
