i'm just waiting for mako to come in
Yet he might just say "lol that's shit"
its good to see that he has taken my place
hah
I can't be bothered to crit his picture if he's not even on fp
he needs to study everything anyway. pretty much if someone is rushing into painting characters without any fundamentals they can be given canned advice. tell him to start learning art again from scratch, with a good thought-out progression of study. listing everything that's amiss with a picture in which everything is amiss is a waste of time, he's not ready to take that on.
Sadly this is about as far as my attention span will allow me to go with a sketch nowadays.
Although the last one is the least interesting one, it's also the one that just fits him so fucking perfectly. I just look at it and I immediately connect it to Wraith King.
The candle sword is really neat as well, the wick is a bit of an odd detail though IMO, it just doesn't seem to belong. Shorten it maybe? I think the main problem is that it's so huge and bends like a hook, maybe just going for a short stump that sticks right up works better? Really digging the melted wax look though. Feels like the hilt is hiding though, it just merges with the blade instead of making the clear distinction of what is a hilt and what is the blade, just make it a bit wider or something maybe?
Axe is maybe too golden, not enough spirit-green? Maybe just that it lacks glow? Feels like the axe and the cracks are two different components, you know, like it's just drawn over.
The Scythe axe looks really good, the green glow compliments the gold and red perfectly, can't personally imagine him wielding it though, but it looks good.

I disagree - for me a wraith is cold, calculating, vicious. Nimble. Ominous.
The last design is too bulky to evoke that
thanks, i took your advice and worked on those concepts a little bit more. gonna start modelling soon

I don't think normal orangutans' fur is quite that lustrous, but I like it.

I've been reading/studying that book a lot, myself. I'm slowly getting away from drawing stiff, static poses, finally. Loomis is crazy good.
A few quick drawings.

I like this one the most!
here's a thing i've been working on

Been practicing some heads, getting down the structure and proper measuring. Didn't want to post until I came up with something decent.

Though her nose looks like it has been punched in. Also every single face ends up being too wide, even though I (think) I measure everything correctly.

e: Made a fixed version, just for fun.

But that orangutans is not really normal, so that's ok. Really nice stuff, by the way.

Some more of the dieselpunk pilot girl, feedback welcome, especially regarding the outfit!

Also as a happy accident if I take the background layer off it looks artsy. :D

Another study.. I focussed to much on the details I think, lost track of the image as a whole

Making it look right without painting in all those details is probably the most challenging thing for me in painting landscapes. Especially on things like layered rock or hundreds of trees on a snowy mountain. I mean you can get a textured brush and get something looking ok, but sticking to a basic brush I can't seem to figure out how best to capture big value changes on a small scale without painting it in. A mid tone doesn't seem to work at all.
Gave a shot at animation.

Give those a read.
As an aside, why is her mouth so far up on her face?

I like how imaginative solutions you came up with! Simple yet elegant.
Are those dots stars or fireflies? Because I instantly thought of fireflies but there's a telescope there so it could be stars as well.
Couple of portraits. I feel like I should draw more.

You have an unusual but awesome way of using somewhat unusual colour while making it look totally normal. A lot of your paintings have these kind of vibrant red or purple shadows, which seems bizarre but you somehow make it work. It's really cool.

that "one round of design" thing is a really weird way of doing business. Also I strongly advise charging people based on a measurement of time lol, not by piece. for example what if I ask for a design and then ask for a couple of small tweaks and then a couple more and so on and so forth, is there a point where you'll suddenly ask for double the price (2x "rounds of design")? or will you be measuring it out in individual dollars after the initial delivery? or will you do it at no extra cost as part of the original price of the drawings? from your pov you don't want to be doing more work than is reasonable for the asking price, and from my pov the design isn't worth anything until it's succeeding at everything I asked for.
the other thing is your approach to copyright, you should revise that, right now it looks like you're either selling the complete assignation of your copyright or "the right to print the image as much as you want non commercially" which is literally nothing lol anyone can print your pictures out
these are probably more serious considerations than you want to get into at the moment but as you get better it's good to have a grasp on this stuff, so you're not limiting yourself to the most casual penniless teenage clients or on the other hand getting fucked through the balls by somebody with a contract who wants to take advantage of your peculiar acquaintance with copyright law :v
