Update, did some minor lighting changes, any crits?

I would give more thought to the lighting produced by the ship. Specifically as the focal point it is surrounded by not enough level of detail IMO and the strong highlights but lack of any softer light doesn't make much physical sense. I'd light up that whole area around the ship and use the light to add definition to the forms surrounding it. Right now it kind of feels like an afterthought.
Also compositionally is too close to the bottom of the frame.
Did another portrait for a friend.

to add to this, you could move the ship further up in the composition, but you'd lose some of the nice highlights from the ship's engines.
you could stretch the bottom a little but that might result in too much vertical space and you might also lack detail in the extra part. you could crop the top to reduce the vertical space so i think you'd lose the really nice background fading you have there.
to sum up, i think you'd have to add more on the right and bottom of the image to keep it proportional (not that that matters in the end i suppose, i'm just trying to keep it close to the rule of thirds and all that)
it feels like those foreground rocks on the right "block" the path of the ship, so maybe it might bear removing them if you decide to expand the image on the right. alternatively you could keep it in and add more of the path on the other side, leaving those rocks as a line on the right third.
just some ideas
So I did a few experiments in gimp to recreate the effect of a VHS tape which has been rather well used by someone.

If anyone's interested to hear about how I achieved some of the effects, I would love to share my method!

That's some great advice guys, I'll improve it and post the results. Thanks!
Can't help but love your shit more and more each iteration, Mikkelmann.

i for one would like to know the secret behind the tapes, sir
Painting from streetview ref, I am really happy with it

This really catches the atmosphere.
I disagree, the whole top of the piece with the sky and trees is really saturated with earthy reddish accents and looks like a hot climate, deviating way off the ref
As a Norwegian it seems quite spot on. Sure, the saturation's a bit high in some places in relation to the ref but I think that's allowed. On a sunny day I think it'd look pretty close.
Thanks guys. I made it sunnier and warmer than the ref because I thought it would look nicer but I agree the foliage is a bit saturated / off hue in places.
Bought a Wacom Intous Pen & Touch, after some annoyance about overpriced programs and buggy freeware stuff, I eventually got to MyPaint, which is actually pretty nice. Thanks to a fellow Facepuncher in Fast Threads for telling me about it. I am delighted to be able to draw again.
So now I am working on this thing:
The sketch, with outlines

Base colours:

Gonna work on it more later, just wanted to show what I had done until now.
Really hope this is the right thread since I couldn't find any for WIP works, things are clusterfucky now that there isn't a CC to keep it all organized in.
wip pieces are fine
though if history has taught us anything it's that there should be an iron ceiling on the number of iterations of the same thing you can post

Eh I intend that the next post is this, finished.
Anyone got any CC on it as it is currently?

Your lines are really messy and petted, and your colours are also kinda messy, but its really going to depend how you intend to finish it up if any of that will matter. I know literally nothing about guns so can't say anything about how that looks :v:
I was sorta getting this old cartoon vibe from it:

My english is failing on me right now, what do you mean by petted?
My english is failing on me right now, what do you mean by petted?
Oh sorry, didn't notice you weren't a native english speaker, its when you make lots of short lines instead of one long line, making the lines look messy and scribbly. it lowers quality of work a lot. The easiest way to fix it is just to make multiple points on your canvas and practice connecting them with one straight line, and then try connecting 3 with a smooth curve. It just takes a bit of getting used to using a tablet as well, since it's new to you.
I find myself drawing lines, pressing ctrl+z, doing this about 10 times before I am happy with a line often. Even now I've been doing it for quite a long time, I'm nowhere near as confident with lines on a tablet as I am with a pencil.
