I need a little advice. I've always used Photoshop for everything from photo processing to logo creation, but I've recently started learning Illustrator for the latter of the purposes and just after 2 weeks of using it, I can really see the advantage of having a drawing tablet, which I don't.
Any advice on what to look for, that won't tear my bank account to pieces? Something for a beginner, that doesn't suck.

I got a wacom bamboo a while back -- it was relatively cheap and so far has been mostly reliable. I'd recommend it for beginning
I'm not sure Wacom are the best value for money any more. I have read about other brands like huion and monoprice which are a lot cheaper and I've read that they are pretty good. I don't know a lot about what's the best right now but I would definitely consider something other than Wacom because they are super expensive. Someone who knows more about this should comment though because I haven't tried anything but Wacom.
Also bamboo doesn't exist any more, they changed it from Bamboo & Intuos to Intuos & Intuos Pro irrc.

Really? I didn't expect things to change with those that much.
Well to be fair I haven't bothered to see what's up to date with tablets, I think I bought mine over a year ago for like 50 bucks.

It's a photobash only pretty much. It was interesting and fun to do. I'd recommend it.
The comp became a little hard to read. Didn't prepare properly.
I feel like the plane shadow would look better if it was a little smaller, and the blue from the sea reflected on the bottom of the plane looks a bit too strong and makes the value match the sea too closely, stopping it from popping quite as much as it could do.
Looks awesome though.

I have a big monoprice and it's alright but the drivers are really really shit and it's been wearing out pretty fast
I'd suggest just going straight for the wacom stuff, don't bother with the off-brand ones
You guys have some awesome talent, my attempts at drawing have been pretty hopeless at best:

I know that's meant as a compliment but unfortunately I think I speak for the majority in this thread when I say that they have developed their skill over hundreds of hours of practice. When I started I fucking sucked, I wish I was talented.
Best thing you can do to improve is spend a lot of time drawing from reference.

Finally got around finishing this. Shading digitally is fun, like a puzzle game.

Yea, even though I don't put too much time in drawing, I have seen my own improvement over time. It takes a lot of time and patience. I just wish I could be a bit more dedicated to making art.
But I do get inspiration from time to time to make some kind of art.

Just an updated version of a project I worked on, cant remeber if I posted it or not.
4 weeks, 10x1024 texture sheets.

I don't put much time at all into drawing these days sadly
I feel like I'm supposed to get a whole lot of joy out of the drawing process, but I don't - often it's just a sort of comfortable way to pass the time while I'd much rather be playing games or whatever
I dunno, I'm really confused over how or whether I should move forwards with it
Even so, I've seen big leaps in my skill over the last year which I'm quite happy about

For work I do software development. Programming was something I got into because I wanted to make games, websites, etc. It was never the programming itself which made me spend a hours programming in my room in my teens, or made me go and do computer science at uni, it was the end goal of being able to create my ideas. I draw for the same reason.
Conveniently, that huge amount of time I spent programming has got me to the point where I can make a career of it. When I sit in an office developing something that somebody wants me to develop, I'm not doing it with a huge grin on my face, but like you said for you of drawing, it is comfortable.
I don't have any plans to make drawing a profession like I did programming, but I do it for the same reason, because I want to be able to create my ideas. That makes it worth it for me, whether the process is super fun or not.
I don't know if you started drawing for the same reason as me. I guess look at why you started.
people are stealing my memes
somebody made a smash bros parody game and featured mayro (my 100% original character) in it with my artwork and everything
memes are not public domain

Thinking of carrying this effect all the way through my showreel, changing channel etc.
How is it?
Nicely executed, but also sort of bandwagony.
Are there any personal reasons for the effect? Does it compliment the style of your work? Is it "you"?
To me it just seems like a random cool transition effect because you need one and the corrupted video effect has been quite popular in the past few years.

I'm approaching a crossroads in my life where I still am not sure how important my art is to me.
Sometime during my next (and last) year of highschool, I've got to decide whether I want to really invest myself in art and go to an artschool so that I can make it a profession coming out of education, or if I want to go the safe route and do what I initially planned on doing and study programming and go into the military afterward.
I love art, but I'm not sure just how big of a role in my life it's going to play.

Thanks man! Unfortunately I do not have high res versions. They're actually menu assets for a game my friend and I are working on, and because they're probably going to appear smaller in the end, I didn't see the point in making them much bigger than that. I might have one or two suitably large images on my blog though. http://sebastiankingsart.blogspot.com/
First time using Gouache today. It's probably the easiest physical paint to work with that I've tried and the most similar to digital in its application.

I don't know if you were going for it but the way the bottom of the painting looks kinda conveys speed to me. I really like that.

Hadn't really known it was a "bandwagony" thing to do.
I was trying to get the effect of an old TV Screen changing channels and faulty wiring or something. Each transition between my work was going to change channel. I'll work on what it says about me but this is kind of for fun and kind of for serious stuff, I'll probably retract the idea of using it on my website's background (just the scanlines).

Seriously though, can't go wrong with Caesar. One thing, I think his head might be a bit too close to his torso. I know, early Araki pose and all that, but I really don't thing there's room for a chin. Either that, or the dead on perfect side view of the head is screwing me up.
Here's my game.
