There are free alternatives for hosting. I've been using 000webhost for ages now and although it has its downsides it does the job. There are plenty of free blog hosts too which would do a comic just fine.
Hey guys, I've been trying to get into art more seriously. But I feel like I'm lacking any sort of real direction. I guess my goal is to get to a decent level of skill, but I'm not quite sure how to go about that. I'm practicing with references on my sketchpad, but I'm wondering what I might be missing. Right now I have a basic grasp of some fundamentals but, well, I don't think I'm good. Does anyone have tips for me to keep in mind as I'm practicing? Maybe give me some insight as to how you all got to where you are right now? I know what I'm asking is vague.
pick up a pencil and paper and find something you like that's how i started out

Been doing mostly pen and ink stuff lately, but I did manage to brush some rust off of working digital these past few days:

OhmygodIloveit However the stark white of the eyes seem to really stand out against the rest of the picture. Like a difference in style.

I'm still pretty new to this whole "drawing with appeal" thing so yeah I have some issues to work out. I'm sure I could resolve the eyes better but I wasn't sure how else to do it. I agree with you 100% though
Some birds have eyes that look completely black, like crows, others have a coloured iris which occupies the entirety of the visible eye, like pigeons. So you could try the whole black eye, which might look a bit demonic considering the size of the eyes on that bird, or you could try a darker value iris and don't draw the sclera. Have a look at the eyes of a collared dove.
The size of the bird's eyes are creepy to me. Makes it look insane, and/or too caffeinated.
started lines on a new drawing last nite

The hair looks sorta weird Like, it looks more solid than it should be Also the neck lacks any shading, so that's something, but other than that it's pretty cool.
I'm a simple artist who doodles every now and then on his spare time. Here's a super-villain character I've been formulating, Rigor Mortis. Having contrast is good, but this is sort of a middle ground between contrasting and not. It'd be better if some of the colors were darker shaded than the others.
I'm a simple artist who doodles every now and then on his spare time.
Your work shows all the issues that any beginner starts off with, so without any malice intended I can't offer you any tips for improving it. Learn about form, shape, color, and space, all those things you hear about in high school art class. They're not as simple as they sound. The most important advice I can give you and anyone else starting out is to double check that you're drawing for your own satisfaction. Set your standards high and keep working at it until you get there, with the reasonable assumption that if it doesn't meet your own standards then other people likely won't want to look at it either. Lots of people make the mistake of drawing for attention and then they get hurt when people don't praise their marginal improvements week after week. Anyway, good luck.
First post in this thread since I've just discovered it. I'm still beginner-level, I think. Got a lot to learn. But I'm messing around with color and different SAI brushes by doing a Garrus paint-over using a screenshot. [t]http://i.imgur.com/ydb6eiU.jpg[/t] Still working on it and trying to define the main features with darker strokes in addition to figuring out the light source. But I think it looks okay for the first half hour of work on it~
