I bet someone's done this before
[t]http://i.imgur.com/Bij9ATH.png[/t] But why is this so popular?
it looks kinda cool, but I prefer goat men more. On the picture, the nose doesn't really stick out. I don't know how to fix that, though :v:
First post in this thread since I've just discovered it. I'm still beginner-level, I think. Got a lot to learn. But I'm messing around with color and different SAI brushes by doing a Garrus paint-over using a screenshot. [t]http://i.imgur.com/ydb6eiU.jpg[/t] Still working on it and trying to define the main features with darker strokes in addition to figuring out the light source. But I think it looks okay for the first half hour of work on it~
[t]http://i.imgur.com/DW1VLMU.jpg[/t] defined things a little more. thoughts? the top of his head is flat because his whole head isn't in the shot so it'll eventually be covered.
nice butthole dude
Cheers for that, you must be new to my work :v: Put a little bit more effort into the piece:

Like, enough that there's black on at least one part of it. That aside it looks pretty good, but you're definitely going to want to define the silhouette of the head to be more round. Unless you're cropping it down before posting, that might be because you're letting the boxy constraints of your canvas affect the painting. Anyway, its not bad. You're on the right track I'd say Also I'm gonna call this one done
Thanks! I'm still working on it. Decided to do the armor too and that's a bit of a struggle, but I'm putting down darker colors as I go to give it more contrast. It's looking better the more defined it is.

Last progress shot for tonight. [t]http://i.imgur.com/4G257gO.jpg[/t] It's got a ways to go. I'm really just trying to lay out colors and areas. But I'm pretty happy with it thus far. I'll come back to it tomorrow, hopefully~
[t]http://i.imgur.com/GC5YvKR.png[/t] First time I've ever managed to sculpt something organic that ended up looking somewhat like the thing I planned to make in the first place. It's riddled with errors, but I'm still proud of it.
Also I'm gonna call this one done
Awesome dude. I have a technical question - I can see what looks like the effects of an unsharp mask filter around the snow which makes it pop very nicely, but it looks like it hasn't been applied to the whole image which I think works well in stopping the image from looking kind of flat from sharp value changes across the whole painting. Just wondering what you've done here - whether you've applied unsharp mask to the whole thing then erased based on depth, or just applied it to layers you want it on or something? Kind of only a small technical detail but I'm just interested what you've done there. [editline]25th May 2015[/editline]
Last progress shot for tonight. I'll come back to it tomorrow, hopefully~
Don't shy away from adjusting levels, saturation etc. it's a huge advantage of digital. You've massively sold your painting short so far, I haven't painted over this at all - just messed with levels (I realise some values are lost and this isn't perfect, I only spent 2 minutes doing this) - I'm actually impressed you've managed to work in such a range of values within such a small actual range, in fact it makes me think your monitor might need some... calibrations
I forgot to turn Flux off while I was working so that might be it. I'll definitely mess with values and stuff though once I think I've got sufficient detail! Thanks~ [editline]25th May 2015[/editline] [t]http://i.imgur.com/wysv4sZ.jpg[/t] Messed with the colors and working on a darker canvas, as suggested. Some details got a bit muddled and the colors aren't quite right but I'm gonna work to clean them up. [editline]25th May 2015[/editline] My mom poked her head into my room this morning and was like "that's a really good painting, but that is a scary and ugly alien man".

I would constantly forget it and could never figure out a hue or value shift combination to get it back to the way I saw it with flux on.

I've been pretty sick the past few days and finally had the energy to get back to work
Redid a previous painting from imagination in a wider and slightly lower angle comp And did this thing from imagination which ended up looking kind of weird but w/e

I'm gonna go ahead and say this is done. [t]http://36.media.tumblr.com/769c37b1bb281f3efd44d1757f034d1e/tumblr_nox1zqfKXw1ql7e99o1_500.png[/t] [Larger version here.] It was a fun little experiment. Could stand for some improvements like the lighting on the armor and the general neatness of it all. But it's good for a first attempt at doing something different, I think. Thoughts are welcome~
The slush/snow/dirt patch in the middle looked super muddy until I applied a Smart Sharpen to it, which made it look a lot more convincing right off the bat. I didn't apply the filter to everything else though- just a selection that covered that area, and then I went back in a bit with the brush to make it look a bit less flat and fake. Can anyone refer me on a good resource on perspective? I really need to shape up but I can't find any good tutorials or anything on it
Can anyone refer me on a good resource on perspective? I really need to shape up but I can't find any good tutorials or anything on it
Perpsective can be a tricky one to learn. I found that many people/resources explained it differently. I believe that one of Andrew Loomis' books has a great explanation of it, but I can't remember which one at the moment
Can anyone refer me on a good resource on perspective? I really need to shape up but I can't find any good tutorials or anything on it
Scott Robertson has a good book on it applied to vehicles. Maybe check his youtube channel for a video on the basics? If you need help you can PM me or add me on skype/steam. This was my midterm in my perspective class: http://i.imgur.com/yRBs4P8.jpg
;47804119']This is rad, how long did it take?
About one and a half to two hours, I believe. I did some coloring and texturing as well, but I removed it because the colors were horrid, and I couldn't figure out how to easily change them in zBrush without repainting the whole thing. zBrush' interface is the weirdest and I'm still getting used to it.
Next environment done
Besides those black shadows this looks really cool! You should totally consider using more colors, because now blacks just ruin your picture, making it look dirty.
