I haven't drawn since I've entered uni but I'm finally starting to get into the mood to draw again.
uh, so i don't have a scanner or anything fancy, but i made a thing. whats the best way to preserve and get this thing on a black border?
acid free paper, acid free matte board, acid free adhesive/ tape by acid free paper i mean the original thing it was done on
I spray my arts with a clear coat. Seems to prevent them from deteriorating or rubbing off.
I've heard that hair spray works, but I was told that several years ago in a community college art class, so I'm not sure how much it holds up.
Ive found that legitimate matte clear coat from a paint store (or hardware store) works Wayyyy better than hairspray. I used to do hairspray until it took almost an entire can to Just protect my charcoals.
Using hairspray sounds like asking for a fire hazard.
Only if you make and finish your art amongst candlelight
In my experience hairspray doesn't really get the job done. It helps a little but I find the art is still really really easily smudged. I haven't tried using a clear coat but I have used some fixative that I bought at a local art supply store and it worked a little better.
If you're looking for archival quality preservation, you need to start at the very beginning with good quality paints and canvas (or good quality paper if you're working on paper). Acid free, etc, etc. If you're using a fixative for archival purposes on charcoal or pencil, use actual fixative. Hairspray is going to have all sorts of perfumes and other things in it, and so logically isn't going to preserve something as well as a product designed specifically for preservation. Ask your local art shop though
Of course if you're making serious art, do what maloof said. But if you just want to keep your sketches from smudging, clear spray would work.
Not amongst candlelight I hope
Actual fixative is just as flammable. Not sure why flammability is only being mentioned for hairspray
Wow, those corpses add so much to the character. Great stuff dude.
Thanks! I've been doing themed sketches, and I wanted to do a Boogeyman/Child Snatcher thing
Cross post from digital art
I made a house, actually the whole thing was really useful to me and I learned a few things from doing it which was cool. Namely how to use zbrush and also how to set up some more complex materials. Also, I went outside to take the ref for the foliage, shit man, heady days. Crit is welcome as always :) [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/oWSiZP1.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/GD9GDnv.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/JZt2BaG.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/D6vbYE9.jpg[/img_thumb]

Cross post from digital art
this is nice; are those bricks geometry or height maps? it might be a good idea to pad them out a little bit with some other more subtle bricks surrounding them because they can appear a little jarring
