I'd go for the cintiq though it seems nice as hell
If you're getting a 13hd, pick up the refurbished companion hybrid. It's practically the 13hd touch but cheaper by a couple hundo.

A Cintiq will be here in a week...
That's +1 with no negatives, I take that as a yes, haha.

Too late D:
I'm having a difficult time deciding what to do about an eyeball surrounded by ripped up face.

I want to cut open the eyeball too since it seems like a likely thing to happen considering the surrounding injuries, but I can't really find any good reference images of an eyeball that's been cut in a similar manner because pretty much all the results I get are either a completely halved dissected eyeball or a small scratch. It's also kinda hard to keep looking through the photos because they're making me a tad squeamish. Should I suck it up and keep trying to get a more realistic cut, or could I get away with just leaving it intact?
it depends on the context, if he just got cut, chances are he won't have his eye open, and if he does, the eye will be bleeding and bloodshot and kinda not look like an eye. But if it's healed properly, then I don't know how it really is, but everyone seems to go for making the iris white for some reason so you may want to try that.

Well, it's a (technically living) zombie that compulsively clawed at his face during his transformation. I guess the injuries have been there for at least a couple of weeks, but zombification doesn't allow them to heal quickly. So I guess it would be in the process of healing? Cataracts were definitely the plan from the beginning, though.
What sounds better for a web domain for my podcast?
Theearthcollectivestory.com
Or
TECstory.com?

eyeball is full of jell, so if you cut it, it just... bursts :/

Hm. I guess I could just put some scratches on the cornea.
Anyway, could I get some critiques on what's been lined so far? I'm particularly worried that the wrinkles in the hood aren't correct. Face might be wonky too.

so far so good, though in terms of character design he looks less like a zombie and more like a vampire
I was talking to a friend who did a much more commercially focussed graphic design degree than I did, and she reckons that they were told that it's better to get a Mac because, given how many professional workplaces rely on Macs instead of Windows machines (at least here for design), they're more likely to hire you if you regularly use that OS (I guess for reasons of familiarity and the resultant productivity)
To me it sounds BS but apparently it is the case

Yeah, Hunters aren't the most stereotypical of zombies. (Maybe it would've helped earlier if I had specified who I was drawing! :v:)

It's not BS and I'm not sure why you think it sounds BS.
As I mentioned earlier Macs did have a legitimate advantage over Windows back in the days, they were better and more powerful with specialized hardware specifically for media-related software.
Macs became the better alternative and the norm and as such most companies obviously implemented Macs into their infrastructure, and of course everyone aspiring for these kind of careers would mostly choose a Mac, because it was better. And you know, when it's become an integral part of the industry and the hardware most of these companies base themselves on you can't just switch over to Windows all nilly willy, because there is a ton of people that don't touch that OS at all, and the change doesn't really bring any benefits.

i live in sweden, it took forever for a non-touch cintiq to pop up used at a good price
i don't have your american luxuries of being able to pick and choose

nobody will hire you based on what program, OS, or computer you use. just saying
it won't remotely effect any sane company's hiring process. they only care about two things; efficiency and quality
Sloooow progress today...
I want to buy a new tablet. The surface of my current one, Intuos3, is getting a bit bumpy from erosion :( Been using it since 2008.
I wonder if I should get Intuos Pro Medium or Cintiq 13 HD.
Does anyone have both? care sharing some thoughts? thanx in advance.

I own both the tablets youre considering and as long as my 13hd is alive and kickin Ill never go back to the Intuos

Imo it is a perfect size if you dont have a gigantic desk, and extremely comfortable to use. Ive had one for I think a year and a half to two years, 0 complaints from me
Something I wrote last night while battling insomnia.
Like broken glass, my ego lies,
torn asunder but ready to
strike back.
Waiting passive for that careless
moment when the enemy thinks
I'm defeated, and gathers their
friends around so all can see
the spectacle as they tread
barefoot, to prove their point.
Their defenses down, my
edges abound, and easily
pierce and lacerate - they
writhe on the spot - they
scream and hop, but
nothing abates the pain,
for while my ego remains
as broken glass, theirs
is first experiencing shame.
I've been considering a Surface Pro as a drawing tablet rather than a wacom, since it is a full fledged computer rather than just a screen, but I guess the downside is that it doesn't have as many pressure sensitivity levels as the Wacom tablets, but I don't see that making a huge difference, it still has 256..
Also it costs half as much as the wacom stand-alone tablet

Dude, this is sweat, but those black shadows are like a curse of nearly all your pieces i've seen, you should totally fix'em up to become awesome. I mean, it's not bad to use blacks (that guy is a perfect example of how one should use them properly), but in combination with other more or less saturated colours they look not so good. Keeping your palette out of extremes and using contrast colours instead should do the trick.
I'm not seeing any black shadows there - they all seem to be shades of hue, and given the planes have the sun behind them I think it strikes a good balance between realistically lit and well rendered for readability and detail. Tbh this is the best I've seen from you yet Salmon
Antianan, I just looked at it on my brother's laptop screen and on there, the shadows are egregiously black.
Historically yes, I've been working on not shading to black and I will continue to avoid it, but I think in this case it does have a lot to do with my screen calibration

Wrong, some companies only have Macs and thus require people that already use a Mac, you can't just bring in your personal computer you have to use what they dispose for you. Seen loads of those whilst looking for a job.
So if you don't use a Mac at home you're boned? Surely if you're competent with a Mac despite using a PC at home you'd be fine?
Yes. Tell them you're profecient with Mac. Doesn't matter if you use a PC at home. Play your mac skills up
So if you don't use a Mac at home you're boned? Surely if you're competent with a Mac despite using a PC at home you'd be fine?
No, you're only boned if you haven't used nor learned how to use a Mac.
No, you're only boned if you haven't used nor learned how to use a Mac.
ohhh I'm so glad
I don't mind Macs in general, but the lack of any reasonable self-service support and the downright RSI-branded peripherals make me very sad
At first, I was beginning to question whether getting a Mac for art school was really the best decision because of all of the Windows-only programs (mostly games, but still). This conversation (as well as the fact that my university has Macs in all of the media labs) has alleviated my anxieties.
